Assistant Nurse Manager-Home Health & Hospice

 

This position assists Department Managerr to direct, monitor and control the operation and productivity of the unit by collaborating with all hospital personnel, medical staff and the general public.  Provides input to the Department Manager in areas of budgeting, NIAHO/ISO standards compliance and policies and procedure development.   Actively participates in performance improvement, staff scheduling and time card approval.  Assistant Nurse Manager assumes duties of Department Manager during absences.  Demonstrates clinical expertise and provides direct and indirect patient care as outlined in the Registered Nurse job description.   Incumbent provides leadership in clinical, financial, and personnel management within the department.  Performs other duties as assigned.


Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Oversees the operations of the unit on assigned shift in absence of Manager to ensure smooth and efficient patient care.  Assures appropriate patient assignments relative to caseload and staff.   Completes daily rounding on patients and staff to ensure quality care.
  2. Performs duties to ensure patient and employee satisfaction while promoting safety and retention. 
  3. Assists with clinical expertise for unit staff and physicians.  
  4. Coordinates quality initiatives and process improvements.  
  5. Functions as a role model and encourages staff to participate in their own development.
  6. Assists with selection, orientation, on-boarding, and retention of employees.
  7. Demonstrates Leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and development opportunities.
  8. Assists in the development of the operational and capital budget and ensures optimal productivity for the department.
  9. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.   Provides all customers of organization with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.
  10. Working Conditions:  Inside environment, protected from the weather but not necessarily temperature changes.  Subject at times to infection, contagious disease, and hazardous material and equipment.   May be subjected to combative patients.   Variable noise levels.
  11. Physical Demands/Traits:  Must be able to 1) perceive the nature of sounds by ear; 2) express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word; 3) perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes; 4) extend arms and hands in any direction; 5) seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands; 6) pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers; 7) perceive such attributes of objects or materials as size, shape, temperature, or texture; and 8) stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.  Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pound.

Qualifications

Experience and Knowledge:

3 years progressive clinical and management experience

Demonstrates the ability to facilitate change, excellent communication and organization skills

Demonstrates skills in human relations, human and material resource management

Evidence of ability to provide exceptional clinical and administrative nursing leadership

Knowledge of current technology and equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed medical therapies

PC and computer applications

 Education Requirements:

BSN desired ADN with experienced will be considered

 License Requirements:

Current RN license in the State of Oregon

BLS/ACLS/PALS
