Role Purpose

Responsible for assisting women in all stages of pregnancy, childbirth and post-delivery. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general medical direction of an Obstetrician/Gynecologist. Works is guided by physician-approved protocols and evaluated through chart review, consultations and observation of results.

Responsibilities


Monitor, counsel and educate patients to promote healthy living through education and primary prevention regarding medications, treatments, anticipated outcomes and referrals.Conducts examinations and takes full detailed medical history to identify and assess patient’s clinical and health care needs to develop an individual program of care.Identify high risk pregnancies and make referrals to doctors and other medical specialists, as appropriate.Supervise and assist mothers in labor, monitoring the condition of the fetus and using knowledge of drugs and pain managementOffer support and advice following birth or events such as miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality and neonatal death
