Biweekly Additional $1.00/hr for Premium Differential As an Inpatient Behavioral Health Nurse, you play a vital role in providing compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. You will work in a fast-paced, structured environment within a mental health hospital, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to support patients through stabilization and recovery. What to Expect in This Role Daily Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care, including medication administration, monitoring for side effects, and assessing changes in patient behavior. Conduct patient assessments to evaluate mental, emotional, and physical health needs. Work closely with psychiatrists, social workers, and therapists to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. Support de-escalation efforts, utilizing therapeutic communication and crisis intervention techniques. Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, coping strategies, and discharge planning. Document all patient interactions, interventions, and progress in electronic health records. Participate in shift hand-offs and team meetings to ensure continuity of care. Work Environment A high-acuity, structured setting, where teamwork is essential to maintaining patient and staff safety. Patients may experience severe psychiatric symptoms, including agitation, aggression psychosis, or suicidal ideation. Regular use of nonviolent crisis intervention techniques to manage escalations Shifts may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays based on patient needs. A multidisciplinary team approach, where communication and collaboration are key. Security team on staff and rounding on units 24/7. Challenges You May Face Emotional intensity—working with patients in crisis requires strong emotional regulation and self-care. Physical demands—assisting patients in distress may require standing, walking, and occasional interventions. Complex cases—co-occurring disorders, medication noncompliance, and social barriers can make treatment challenging. Safety concerns—while rare, aggressive behavior from patients may occur, requiring quick thinking and adherence to hospital safety protocols. At Meritus Medical Center , our 32-bed Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) Unit provides comprehensive, family-centered care for patients throughout every stage of childbirth—from antepartum through postpartum recovery. Our LDRP model allows mothers to labor, deliver, recover, and room-in with their newborns all in one private space—creating a comfortable and seamless experience for families. Newborns remain in the room with their mothers unless a higher level of care is required. We typically deliver 170–190 babies each month and maintain 24-hour neonatology and anesthesiology coverage , ensuring the highest level of safety and support for both mother and baby. What You’ll Do Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care throughout the continuum of labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum. Support mothers and families during labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period. Monitor maternal and fetal status, administer medications, and assist in labor support and delivery procedures. Collaborate closely with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes. Educate and support new mothers in infant care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery. Our Care Model & Staffing Labor: 1:1 patient assignment (occasionally 1:2 as needed). Job Summary: Meritus Health is seeking an experienced APP to deliver comprehensive and up-to-date pain management care for our patients. The right person will be joining a busy and collaborative practice with established physicians and mid-levels. We look for this person to be able to perform all functions of the job description which covers: performing a diagnostic clinical evaluation, refer for appropriate intervention, procedure(s), physical therapy and engaging other specialists.
