Certified Surgical Technologist – Operating Room Position Highlights: Position: Certified Surgical Technologist Location: Glenview, IL Full Time/Part Time: Full time 36 hours per week Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:30pm, On Call Rotation Required What you will do: Perform scrub person duties during the intraoperative phase of surgical procedures Assist in the preparation and dispensing of instruments, equipment and supplies required for surgical procedures Conduct all instrument, needle, sharps and sponge counts, as well as handle specimens Assist in the application of dressings or casts and moving patients Assist in decontamination/reprocessing area when assigned Maintain inventory in Operating Room and on carts What you will need: Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of an approved Surgical Technologist school or minimum 3 years’ experience as a Surgical Technologist Certification: Current CPR certification required. How you’ll make an impact in this role Prepare and maintain a sterile operating suite with appropriate instruments, supplies, and solutions. Assist with patient preparation, transport, positioning, and draping for surgical procedures. Support surgeons intraoperatively by passing instruments and maintaining accurate instrument counts. What minimum requirements you’ll need Licensure / Certification / Registration: BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted. One or more of the following required: Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Education: High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required. North Shore Surgical Suites is a fast-paced, multi-specialty Surgery Center committed to producing the highest quality work and experience for patients and their families. Off on weekends and holidays! No call required! Job Summary: Anticipates the needs of the surgical team. Establishes and maintains sterile field during surgical procedures in the operating room. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures. Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment. Assists circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment. Is responsible for doing sponge, needle, and instrument count pre-operatively and intra-operative with the circulating nurse. Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants. Assists in keeping physician preference cards accurate/updated. Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source/name of specimen with surgeon. Transports all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas. Assists in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets. Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background. Uses Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment. Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills. Follows all equipment and safety guidelines and is responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment. Serves as a resource to other members of the health care team. Attends in-services, conferences, and meetings as required. Communicates effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians, and their office staffs, patients, and employees. Maintains patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy. Maintains designated certifications such as CPR, as offered by the center. Acts in accordance with the vision, mission, and business philosophy of the Center. Complies with Policies and Procedures and adheres to safety guidelines to ensure a safe work and patient care environment. Required Skills: High School Diploma / GED; completion of a Scrub Technician Certification Program. 1-2 years of operating room experience as a Scrub Tech in multiple specialties or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Surgical Tech preferred. BLS Certification. #LI-LL1
