Responsibilities The Nurse Practitioner or Physician assistant in the Department of Critical Care will care for patients in a variety of ICU service lines including Cardiothoracic/Transplant ICU, Neuroscience ICU and Abdominal Transplant/Surgical ICU. The APPs rotate between all three of these service lines, the specific area the APP will be assigned to upon hiring will vary based on department needs and relevant experience. The Cardiothoracic ICU involves caring for patients requiring mechanical circulatory support including ECMO and Impella, pre and post heart and lung transplant and post cardiothoracic surgery. The Neuroscience ICU involves care for patients with ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, neurology patients requiring ICU care and post neurosurgical procedures. The abdominal transplant ICU involves care of patients pre and post liver and kidney transplant and any other surgical patient requiring ICU care post-operatively. The critical care NP or PA will perform critical care procedures per hospital credentialing policy.
