Job Description Summary: Reviews incoming phone calls related to patient conditions, concerns, and needs. Consults with providers to present patient’s problem and/or condition and resolves the problem or direct calls to appropriate person. Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities: Answers and/or reviews phone calls from patients, caregivers, and outside entities and uses nursing assessment skills to determine the nature of each call, its urgency, how to resolve the question/problem and to whom to direct the call. Reviews patients chart for possible adverse events related to treatment prior to discussing with the provider. Be able to discuss with physician and/or nurse practitioner the steps necessary to insure proper patient care. Be able to discuss with the provider any abnormal labs or tests presented to them by other staff members so that appropriate action regarding further orders can be carried out and charted, if necessary. Contact emergency room when a patient is directed there, give explanation, diagnosis, and a phone number where provider can be contacted. Handle prescription refill requests according to Company procedure. Job Description Summary: Answers incoming phone calls regarding patients. Consults with Head Nurse and/or physician to present patient’s problem and resolve the problem or direct calls to appropriate person. Documentation: Thorough, accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered to patients. Ensure appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for appropriate administration of all medications and activities. Will follow proper patient identification per JBI for all patient encounters. Teaching: Educate patients and caregivers about medications, side effects and planned treatment course. Interact with patient and family in a caring, professional manner. Telephone triage: Includes prioritizing incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physician offices from emergent to non-urgent. Must respond accordingly in an appropriate time frame. Supplies: Includes assisting with inventory and re-stocking medical supplies, recommend purchase of new items as needed. Place stock in storage areas in a timely manner. Complete annual required safety and nursing trainings. Attend all mandatory staff meetings as necessary. Always maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information. Assist in training new employees related to job duties according to JBIs. Will be expected to work at any Company location to help meet the Company’s business needs on an as-needed basis, within reasonable expectations. Will also be expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice. Performs other duties and projects as assigned. Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law. Adheres to Company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Plan. Job Qualifications and Requirements: Education : Nursing Degree Certifications/Licenses : Unencumbered RN License in state of employment or multi-state license Current CPR and BLS certifications Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed Previous Experience (including minimum years of experience) : Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting Ability to assess patient needs and condition is essential. Must have strong critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Fluency in the English language with excellent oral and written communication skills is required.
