Department Pediatrics and Womens Job Summary Join our Team on 6WT: Pediatrics and Women's Med Surg Unit Job Details: Provides professional nursing care to patients and families in an acute clinical care environment, guided by the SMHCS nursing professional practice model and in accordance with the ANA's Standards of Professional Practice. We are currently seeking candidates for our full time night shift openings. Our team is recognized for their expertise and high priority on patient outcome. This is a specialized and unique unit with staff that provide complex medical care to both adult female patients and pediatric patients. We are one team with a multitude of specialized staff for each population. Our Women’s Medical Surgical Population consist of any female patient with a medical or surgical diagnosis, over age 18. We have specialized staff and a focus on patient populations for antepartum medical diagnosis, postpartum readmissions with medical diagnoses, GYN patients, and some postpartum mothers. Our Pediatric staff care for patients from ages 8 hours old to 17 years old, with medical surgical diagnoses. In addition to a dedicated Charge Nurse, Lead Pediatric Nurse, Pediatric Hospitalist, Pediatric Intervention RN and Child Life Specialist on our unit, we also have a Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist and Case Manager that work solely within our Women and Children’s Division. Our support staff also consist of Multi Skilled Technicians that are trained for both populations on the unit. There is an opportunity for nurses to be cross trained to deal with both populations as job advancement. Job Summary Performs patient care to patients under the direction and supervision of the Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse. Essential Functions Assists patient with hygiene, mobility, hydration, elimination and nutritional needs. Provides routine treatments and maintains a safe, clean, neat, and organized patient environment. Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team. Assures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality. Follows standard precautions, always washes hands between patients. Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients. Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rates, food and fluid intake and output as directed. Obtains data and accurately documents pertinent patient information according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines. Recognizes and communicates appropriate information and safety concerns regarding the patient’s condition to the RN and or other members of the healthcare team. Participates in handoff report and purposeful hourly rounding of patients. Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers and team members. Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by Orlando Health and unit specific competencies. Maintains a clean, neat, safe and organized nursing unit. Receives and processes incoming phone calls, patient call lights and guest requests. Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility. May have limited access to areas storing medications. Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Enthusiastically supports and participates in planned changes. Participates in nursing Performance Improvement activities as assigned. Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies. Consistently utilizes time and resources effectively and efficiently. Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls and guest requests. Attends hospital, unit staff meetings and in-services according to policy. Completes all mandatory training. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care based on principles of growth and development over the life span. Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs Education/Training High school graduate or equivalent One (1) year of nursing assistant work experience within the past five years may be substituted for completion of one of the below trainings: Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Assistant Program; or State of Florida Certified Nursing Assistant certification;or State of Florida Licensed Practical Nurse; or Graduate of an approved school of nursing;or Medical Corpsman, Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic; or Medical personnel licensed outside the United States Licensure/Certification Licensure/Certification Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification. Job summary The Registered Nurse administers patient care in an area in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting where an acute care patient receives active treatment for an injury, episode of illness, a medical condition, or post intervention with assessment. Essential Functions Assesses patient’s needs and develops/revises an individualized plan of care based on patient needs and responses. Evaluates the patient’s progress toward attaining expected outcomes. Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers. Functions as a patient and family advocate. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned. Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/ or nurse clinician. Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage the unit/department. Serves as a role model for staff and supports the hospital and nursing department’s goals and strategies. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, assesses the data reflective of the patient’s status, and interprets the necessary information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs. Coordinates the care and delegates as appropriate to other team members on a defined group of patients.Documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner meeting all required and regulatory standards. This includes but is not limited to patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety. Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit/department-specific requisite skills. Prioritizes patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care. Practices effective problem identification and resolution. Delegates tasks and duties to healthcare team members in accordance with the patient’s needs and the team member’s capabilities and qualifications. Communicates appropriate information regarding patient condition or unit concerns to other health care team members. Demonstrates caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families. Demonstrates awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights. Collaborates with the education department and nursing leadership team to effectively transition and support new team members and/or students. Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. The professional nurse contributes to the knowledge and skills of others, and the continuous improvement of the quality of health care practice and organizational outcomes. Participates and may lead unit level and/or organizational level committees of nursing practice and performance improvement. Participates in department and organizational peer review, mentoring, and coaching regarding professional practice or role performance. Practices efficient use of supplies and maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area. Attends staff development in-services, department meetings, and/or nursing committee meetings. Partners with the nursing leadership team to identify professional development needs. Assumes responsibility for one’s own professional development and continuing education. Performs all other duties as assigned. Education/Training Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and unit/department. Licensure/Certification Maintains current State of Florida RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification. Experience 1 year experience required
