Job Summary and Qualifications The staff nurse serves as the leader of the Nursing Care team who is ultimately responsible and accountable to the patient for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient focused, outcome oriented care. Will develop competencies for functioning safely in all areas of Labor and Delivery Services. Nursing plan of care will include newborns, adolescents, and adults. What you will do in this role: The staff nurse serves as the leader of the Nursing Care team who is ultimately responsible and accountable to the patient for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient focused, outcome oriented care. Through assessment of the patient’s physical, nutritional, psychosocial, spiritual, emotional, cultural, educational, and rehabilitative needs, problems are identified and documented in the clinical record and communicated to the physician, social worker, case manager, and ancillary departments when appropriate Appropriate standards of care, care plans, and interventions are initiated, professionally modified, and communicated to the patient and other members of the healthcare team Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the following age groups: neonate, adolescence, childbearing age adult Provides patient/family health education that promotes healthy behaviors, supports recovery, and enables the patient/family to be involved in decisions about their own care The patient’s responses to interventions and progress toward desired outcomes are assessed, re-assessed, evaluated, and documented in the clinical record Patient care activities are coordinated through collaboration and planning with other members of the healthcare team Physicians’ orders are carried out accurately and efficiently, and clarified when necessary Adverse or sudden changes in the patient’s conditions are promptly communicated to the physician, charge nurse, nursing supervisor, and/or family with specific and pertinent data Able to identify potential or actual victims of abuse and understands the proper reporting mechanism Able to recognize adverse drug reactions and demonstrates understanding of proper reporting mechanism once reaction is identified Appropriately assesses the patient’s pain and involves the patient in effective management of that pain using appropriate interventions Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary for administration of blood and blood products and appropriately monitors the patient receiving blood/blood products for any transfusion reaction; takes proper measures once a reaction is recognized Patient care equipment is utilized safely and efficiently in accordance with hospital policies and procedures Standard precautions are promoted and followed in the utilization of principles of infection control in patient care Achieves stated goals related to job performance Educational attendance records reveal attendance at all required educational programs/in-services Demonstrates ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation Demonstrates knowledge of fetal monitoring. Identifies FHR patterns and treats appropriately Able to modify job duties and communicate with customers in an age appropriate manner. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures in Labor and Delivery, immediate postpartum, and O.R. as necessary. Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to utilize the Infant Security System and HUGS tags. Job Summary and Qualifications The staff nurse provides direct patient care to adult through geriatric patient populations. Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the surgical and pre-operative environment. Communicates with the physician continuously and as needed about patient condition. Assists with the maintenance of equipment and inventory. Assesses procedure room for equipment functioning and readiness. Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of the Cardiac Cath Laboratory team are met. Monitors, positions and assists patient during procedure. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. What you will do in this role: Responsible for admitting, recovering and discharging of patients from the Cardiac Cath Laboratory. Provides follow-up. Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other health team members as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes adult and geriatric patient populations. This includes post-procedure assessments. Appropriately assess and reassess the patients’ pain. Utilizes pain management techniques using age appropriate interventions. Involves the patient in effective management of the pain. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Approaches patient in a kind, gentle manner. Demonstrates the ability to handle emergency situations during high risk procedures. Gives patient explanations and verbal reassurances consistently. Adapts nursing procedure to meet the needs for treatment of individual adult and geriatric patients. Identifies the patient verbally and by the patient’s ID armband. Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner. Demonstrates the ability to assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes in adult to geriatric patients and is able to treat appropriately. Able to modify job duties and communicate with customers to provide age appropriate care to the patient populations served. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group. Appropriately responds to a patient in an emergency or physically distressful situation. Assessment and reassessment of the patient is clearly and concisely communicated on charting. Documentation meets current standards, policies and procedures. Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationships with coworkers for the patient’s benefit. Responsible for daily check of emergency crash cart and defibrillator. Counts narcotics at beginning and end of each shift with another RN per facility policy and procedure. Accurately completes procedure counts (instruments, sponges, sharps) with the scrub. Follows proper procedure in the event of incorrect counts. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of instrument sterilization and biological monitoring. Is able to perform all nursing duties as required. Utilizes initiative, self-motivated; manages time and activity, does not waste time. Demonstrates the ability to educate patients and their families.
