Recognizes and intervenes appropriately with the subtleties of hemodynamics in the dialysis patient. Demonstrates an understanding of the pathophysiology of the renal failure patient. Uses equipment properly and consistently demonstrates the ability to operate specific instruments within the guidelines and standards set forth by the manufacturer and work instructions specific to the dialysis equipment (Hemodialysis/CRRT/plasmapheresis/ peritoneal dialysis including CAPD and CCPD). Demonstrates the ability to access/de-access dialysis catheters/fistulas/grafts. Provides the needed specific education to patients and families which ensures follow through with the out-patient treatment plan. Assesses the patient’s condition and needs using critical thinking and clinical judgment. Sets outcomes; implements appropriate nursing actions and collaborates with other disciplines to meet the patient’s/family’s physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and intellectual needs; and evaluates patient’s progress. Calculates dosages and administers medications accurately in accordance with St. Charles Health System policies and procedures for medication administration. Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests. Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies, procedures and regulatory agencies. Under general supervision, the Medical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care services, determining medical conditions, and preparing patients for examination and treatment under the direction of the Provider.
