Overview NaphCare is hiring a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our team of medical professionals in Detroit, MI in the Wayne County Jail. This position is working 3 - 12-hour shifts per week with rotating weekends. As a Correctional CMA , you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have various duties to keep you engaged including assisting physicians and other healthcare professionals with examinations, taking patient histories, vital signs, supporting administrative tasks, etc. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs. Pay rates range from $18.80 - $19.79 per hour plus shift differentials where applicable! Pay rates range per hour based on employment status, site needs, licensure, and experience. *New grads are encouraged to apply - we'll train you in the exciting field of correctional healthcare!* Responsibilities As a CMA , you will play a critical role in our continued mission to provide quality healthcare that protects the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population. Duties and responsibilities may include and not be limited to: Clinical Duties: Performing patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems, medication history Taking and documenting vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, weight, PPDs, EKGs and basic laboratory tests Administering medication (under the direction of a physician) Providing basic wound care, performing routine blood drawing procedures and routine clinical tasks Assisting with patient hygiene, ambulation and dressing changes Assisting providers during patient examinations and procedures Providing basic patient education and instructions Administrative Duties: Scheduling and coordinating patient appointments Maintaining inventory of medical and office supplies Answering phones, emails and other forms of communications Qualifications New grads are encouraged to apply! Hours are Monday-Friday 9a-5:30p Responsibilities Perform Department of Transportation (DOT) and Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing Prepare patients for physical examinations, including taking vital signs and any required or requested ancillary testing including but not limited to vaccines and injections, phlebotomy, PFTs, audiogram testing and respirator fit testing Perform rapid screening tests (influenza, strep, mono, glucose, etc.) Assist providers during examination and treatment Responsible for performing routine medical procedures as ordered by treating clinician as well as triaging emergent patients as needed Prepare and assist clinician with procedure set up and injury care Apply bandages, dressings and splints as ordered by the treating clinician Dispense medications and DME as ordered by the treating clinician in accordance with state regulations Complete quality assurance activities on equipment and medical devices as well as testing processes used in the center Maintain supplies, clean rooms and equipment, and stock exam rooms Maintain and operate all medical devices and equipment, including calibration and record keeping in accordance with current policy and procedures Notify supervisor immediately if equipment is not functioning properly, supplies are needed, or facility is not operating as expected In partnership with center leadership, assist with patient flow and volume Keep patients informed of expected wait times during all aspects of the center visit Responsible for clerical tasks in both the front and back office associated with patient care and proper record keeping Ensure accuracy in documentation Perform front office duties: greet patients, obtain authorization, check in/out, communicate wait times, answer multi-line telephone system, and distribute employer results/paperwork as needed Follow HIPAA guidelines and safety rules Attend center staff meetings or huddles as required Assist in maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly appearance throughout the facility Complete any applicable training including but not limited to clinical competency training that occurs monthly This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
