Nurse Manager Chestnut Preadmission Evaluation

Baystate Health, western Massachusetts’s premier healthcare provider, and home to Baystate Medical Center (BMC), a Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellence seeks a Nurse Manager to join our leadership team in the Preadmission Evaluation Unit!

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:

Provides pre procedure screening, prepares the patient, family and significant other for his/her experience throughout the Perianesthesia Continuum for patients utilizing the Specialty Level I Trauma Operating Rooms, Outpatient Operating Rooms and Anesthesia Remote sites.
Patient Population: Adult and Pediatric, Inpatient and Outpatient.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Outpatient Service RN Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations at Baystate Health. The Manager collaborates with the professional nursing staff, physicians, and ancillary staff to care for patients with multiple and complex healthcare needs.
The Manager assumes accountability and responsibility for translating the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the nursing service into effective action. Responsibility is centralized within six major areas: clinical practice, leadership, collaboration, professional development, management of the environment, and strategic planning. Incumbent demonstrates Baystate Health operating principles and behaviors. The incumbent is expected to adhere to system and department compliance policies and any applicable laws and regulations.
Integrates the service philosophy and values into all unit practices and programs. Ensures the development and practice of nursing in the outpatient service area. Ensures excellence in patient care through interactions with patients and families, nursing staff and other members of the health care team. Ensures the clinical competence of staff through direct interaction and observation, ongoing evaluation of patient outcomes, and feedback from other members of the health care team. Keeps current with the literature regarding changing practices, interventions, and research in patient care and health care delivery. Attends appropriate educational forums. Actively participates and supports service-based performance improvement efforts.

Sets expectations for behavior and communication and holds individuals accountable, including follow-through of Corrective Actions.

Provides timely feedback and evaluation to staff through formal and informal forums. Creates a unit culture that values and supports inquiry and learning. Provides appropriate education and opportunities for the development of unlicensed staff. Networks with other members of the hospital community to share ideas and problem-solve.
Develops and maintains operational policies and procedures for use in the outpatient service areas. Responsible for the management of the budget for designated areas. Responsible for ensuring compliance with all Baystate Health's policies and procedures. Assures compliance with the regulatory standards, laws, and regulations as they apply to the outpatient service areas. Monitors/evaluates billing processes in collaboration with financial services to maximize reimbursement. Develops and maintains flex staffing plan to meet needs of the departments, while maintaining productivity standards. Responsible for the Performance Improvement Program of the units. Supports and participates in an interdisciplinary health team approach. Responsible for community networking as it relates to programming needs.
The Manager collaborates with other members of the institution to ensure the delivery of services to meet patient care needs. The Manager is accountable for managing human, fiscal, and other resources needed to support outpatient service nursing practice and positive patient outcomes. Maintains open communication with departments that provide support services to the clinical area to ensure the appropriate level of service at all times. Develops and participates in creating systems that monitor operational activities. Follows issues through until resolution occurs. On an ongoing basis, monitors and critically analyzes resource utilization in the unit. Develops budget proposals based on the changing needs of the patient population and clinical programs. Communicates and collaborates with nursing staff on opportunities for and expectations of cost-effective methods of delivery care.
Provides unit staff and ensures that all members are competent to fulfill their assigned responsibilities. Ensures appropriate staffing plan to accommodate changing needs of the unit. Utilizes knowledge of federal, state, and hospital unit accreditation agencies standards, policies and procedures, and reimbursement concerns to direct patient care.
The Manager provides leadership and collaboration in setting the direction of their unit and is responsive to changing internal and external factors. Remains knowledgeable about external forces that are influencing health and patient care management. Develops unit goals and plans to respond to external/internal factors affecting the delivery of patient care. Utilizes knowledge of patients, personnel, and practice to plan initiatives that ensure positive patient outcomes in an effective and efficient manner. Collaborates with other disciplines and initiatives to improve and maintain.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: BSN Required, Master’s Preferred.
Experience: At least five years RN experience, at least two years of supervisor/leadership experience required.
Successfully passed Board of Registration in Nursing Examination and is licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Current American Heart Association BLS Health Care Provider certification required.
