The Hospice Nurse Manager manages practice of professional nursing and delivery of nurse care for patients where they call home, establishes clinical direction for nursing care delivery, provides clinical supervision and maintains quality outcomes, supervises all aspects of personnel management and development, maintains adherence to regulatory standards, coordinates department operations with other departments and develops and monitors budget.
A caregiver in this role will work Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm with a weekend rotation occurring every 6th weekend with after hours on-call.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Manage practice of professional nursing and delivery of nurse care on assigned department.
- Establish clinical direction for nursing care delivery, provides clinical supervision and maintains quality outcomes.
- Collaborate with liaison departments in maintaining patient care standards, identifies and resolves issues affecting the delivery patient care services.
- Develop quality initiatives and implements policies and procedures to insure efficient and effective delivery of health services.
- Develop and maintain patient care standards through continuous quality improvement.
- Maintain Joint Commission and other regulatory standards, including but not limited to, Medicare Conditions of Participation.
- Oversee documentation accuracy.
- Manage of operation of department.
- Analyze personnel structure, determines staffing needs and mix.
- Provide direction and supervision, evaluates performance, conducts selection and termination process, and develops strategic plans.
- Participate in the development of orientation program and holds all staff accountable for responsibilities as identified by their job description.
- Oversee orientation of new personnel.
- Hold staff accountable for completion of mandatory yearly requirements.
- Actively promotes staff and self-development
- Assist in the development and monitoring of budget.
- Participate in departmental committees/projects as appropriate.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Current licensure as a RN in the State of Ohio
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- Valid Ohio Driver’s license upon hire: per policy 8-175 thereafter
- Proof of automobile insurance coverage with $100,000/$300,000 coverage upon hire: per policy 8-175 thereafter
- Three years of recent nursing clinical experience to include at least one year of healthcare management experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing
- Previous experience in home health or hospice setting
Physical Requirements
- Requires frequent data entry, sitting, standing and walking.
- Requires corrective vision and hearing to normal range.
- May require some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
- Light Work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.

- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
