Job Summary

The Nursing Apprentice, under the direct supervision of an RN, performs basic patient care activities. The Nursing Apprentice role allows nursing students an opportunity to enhance clinical skills in a hospital environment while still enrolled in an ADN or BSN program. The Nursing Apprentice I adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics (2015) to provide care to all patients. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in daily practice. "Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder / Director, Watson Caring Science Institute".

Essential Functions:

  • Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including but not limited to, monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output. (30%)
  • Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including but not limited to, bathing, grooming and eating. (10%)
  • Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. (10%)
  • Assists with keeping unit(s) and patient rooms stocked, clean, and orderly. (10%)
  • Develop specific clinical nurse skills through observation of experts and supervised, hands-on experience. (10%)
  • Documentation that complies with clinical guidelines. (10%)
  • Partners with interprofessional team on healthcare consumer throughput by proactively solving problems related to capacity and healthcare consumer flow. (10%)
  • Collaborates with interprofessional teams to incorporate Lean principles for quality improvement initiatives. (10%)

Education:

Work Experience:

  • less than 1 year Must have successfully completed Med/Surg 1 at time of application with the ability to provide transcript with grade. Required
