Job Description

The Nursing Department on the Manhattan campus is seeking a full time Infection Control Preventionist to join our team. We are open to consider flexible schedules. This position offers a $5,000 hiring bonus for full‑time hires, with a prorated bonus for part‑time positions.

The Infection Control Preventionist is responsible for the management and implementation of the Infection Control program. He/She will also be responsible in assuring consistent observance of approved quality standards of care and compliance with established policies and procedures in the provision of resident/client care.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the management and implementation of the Infection Control Program.
  • Directs and supervises the delivery of nursing care within an assigned unit. Delegates the responsibility for direct resident care to the appropriate nursing staff member. Monitors care to assure care is provided as directed by the resident plan of care.
  • Effectively communicates resident and unit needs to Nursing Administration.
  • Utilizes a process of data collection, assessment and care planning to meet the needs of resident.
  • Facilitates communication and problem solving with other disciplines to develop a plan of care which will address these goals.
  • Responsible for assuring the Resident Care Plan is revised as necessary to reflect the current needs of the resident.
  • Participates with Nursing Administration in meeting clinical and budget goals.
  • Evaluates staff assigned to her/his assigned unit to determine staff competencies and/or the need for education. Assists, as appropriate in the education of staff. Participates in the counseling and discipline of staff.
  • Maintains personal competencies to assure the ability to provide resident care,evaluate the competencies of staff assigned to his/her unit and to serve as a role model for unit staff.
  • Communicates resident needs, strengths and conditions to appropriate staff members through unit conferences and in written format.

Qualifications

Skills & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing and current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State
  • A minimum of four years nursing experience including previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Long term care experience ; knowledge of nursing home infection control is required
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • APIC certified or Infection Control Certification is required.

The NICU RN provides management of the NICU Infant requiring Inter-facility transport. Utilizes the nursing process to meet the age specific needs of the patient in all aspects of care: biophysical, psychosocial, education, safety/ environment, and discharge planning Utilizes appropriate steps in the decision-making process to include recognition and priority setting related to patient care and unit-based issues. BSN Required. Knowledge of current nursing, medical and health trends and practices in rendering of patient care. One year of acute care nursing experience preferred for areas other than medical surgical or step-down BLS certification (through American Heart Association) is required. ACLS certification (through American Heart Association) is required for all RNs, except for NICU and OR RNs. All newly hired, inexperienced nurses must receive this certification within 12 months. All newly hired, experienced nurses must receive this certification within 6 months. PALS certification (through American Heart Association) is required for all RNs working in the PACU, 5I Pediatrics, Emergency Department, Armonk Urgent Care, Ambulatory Surgery and 226 Ambulatory Surgery Center. All newly hired, inexperienced nurses must receive this certification within 12 months. All newly hired, experienced nurses must receive this certification within 6 months. NRP certification is required for all RNs working in the Mother-Baby unit, Labor & Delivery, and NICU. All newly hired nurses to the NICU, L&D, and Mother-Baby must receive this certification within 6 months. Effective 10/31/25 all RNs working on 5I are required to have NRP. Experienced RNs will have 6 months to obtain and new graduates will have 12 months. All registered nurses and advanced practice nurses providing direct oncology care must demonstrate one of the following: Current cancer-specific certification in the nurse’s specialty by an accredited certification program. Oncology nursing certifications that qualify include, but are not limited to: AOCNP®, AOCNS®, AOCN®, BMTCN®, CPHON®, CPON®, CBCN® OCN® or Ongoing education by earning 36 cancer-related continuing education nursing contact hours every 3 years (maintained by department manager) Registered Nurses in the Emergency Department must complete de-escalation training within 1 year of hire to transfer to the Emergency Department.
