GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides perioperative patient care, specifically in the intraoperative phase, in both the scrub and circulating roles according to established guidelines. Serves the population from neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Scrubs and circulates on cases independently, with minimal direction.

· Prepares for surgical cases in an efficient manner, anticipating needs of patient, surgeon, anesthesia and other O.R. team members.

· Provides a safe environment for patient and staff by implementing standards of aseptic technique and by controlling the physical and psychological aspects of that environment.

· Collects and analyzes data and assesses patient in developing nursing diagnosis.

· Communicates effectively with the patient, staff, physicians, and families.

· Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up and function.

· Initiates and directs room clean up and turnover.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

· Participates in orientation and training of new personnel.

· Assists in maintenance of physician's preference cards and other O.R. resource material.

· Utilizes computer in surgical documentation, disposition of specimens and obtaining pertinent information.

· Participates in departmental Performance Improvement activities as appropriate.

· Attends department meetings and inservices.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

· Possession of a current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.

· Operating Room experience preferred.

· Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. The acceptable credentialing body is the American Heart Association.

· Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.

· Ability to read, write and speak English language.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS: (Constant 67-100% of workday, Frequent = 34-66% of workday, Occasional = 33% or less of workday)

· Talking and hearing: to exchange information and ideas by means of spoken word, both by phone and in person.

· Standing: while functioning in the scrub role.

· Grasping: while handling surgical instruments.

· Fingering: working primarily with fingers including sutures, needles, etc.

· Pushing and pulling: while moving patients, equipment.

· Climbing: while using stairway between locker area and the O.R. and between Inventory Control and the O.R.

PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:

If a patient is unable to function independently, a mechanical/assistive device and/or additional personnel must be utilized. If an object requires lifting > 50 lbs., additional equipment/personnel must also be utilized.

Heavy work: Exerting up to 65 lbs. push/pull (force to move frequently, and lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and lifting up to 40 lbs. frequently, and lifting up to 20 lbs. constantly, to move patient and/or objects.

VISUAL ACUITY REQUIREMENTS:

· Preparing and reading written and electronic documentation

· Working with small sutures, needles, etc.

· Good hand-eye coordination.

· Peripheral vision.

· Ability to work with a microscope.

· Subject to extremes in lighting.

We are looking to hire a Registered Nurse in our MercyOne Genesis Bettendorf Gastroenterology Associates Clinic! As a Registered Nurse at MercyOne, you will provide patient care in outpatient settings and are responsible for delivering safe, effective, and evidence-based patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. They coordinate care provided by other clinical staff, support patient and family education, and ensure communication across healthcare teams. They are accountable for clinical standards and may operate with minimal supervision. Schedule: Full time 40 hours a week 8:00a-4:30 p No Weekends or Holidays General Requirements: Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Plans, assesses, intervenes, and provides direct patient care using critical thinking and nursing processes (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation). Performs comprehensive patient assessments (physical, psychosocial, nutritional, functional, safety, spiritual, cultural, educational). Makes nursing decisions based on patient status and care needs. Administers medications and treatments safely via multiple routes (oral, IM, SC, ID, IV, inhalation, topical, ocular, optic, sublingual, nasal) and documents accordingly. Performs nursing care, lab and diagnostic tests, specimen collection, phlebotomy, and limited radiology procedures following policies and universal precautions. Assists providers with patient care, phone/mail/fax communications, scheduling, consents, admissions, referrals, and outpatient procedures. Communicates and collaborates with physicians, staff, patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members regarding care plans and patient needs. Educates patients, families, and clinical staff on treatments, medications, test preparation, discharge, and health maintenance; documents education and evaluates understanding. Participates in staff meetings, committees, quality improvement, risk management, and performance improvement projects. Maintains documentation accuracy and completeness in EMR: assessments, vitals, symptoms, treatments, medications, education, charges, lab results, histories, and consults. Maintains and monitors supplies, equipment, medication stock, and office machines; follows maintenance and quality control protocols; reports malfunctions. Recognizes and responds appropriately to urgent/emergency patient needs and initiates emergency procedures. Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior. Education: Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Active RN License in the state of Iowa; Licensure from other states may be required based on location. Compact State License acceptable where applicable. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within 3 months of hire. Proficient in basic computer skills (Windows environment, web-based navigation, email, MS Office). Ability to work with diverse groups of people in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Requires the ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patient, visitors, and colleagues while performing their job duties. Completion of specialty classes or proof of other certifications required for some roles.
