JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research- Coordinates the conduct of complex clinical research studies. Leads others in performing procedures, collecting and analyzing data and making decisions regarding clinical research care, including initial screening, assessment, diagnosis, care, reassessment and modification of care. Demonstrates awareness of the value and relevance of research and evidence-based practice in nursing. Begins to formulate research questions, which can be explored to validate or improve practice. Guides others in providing data which will contribute to the assessment of a client's or patient's needs, the organization's capability to provide care or treatment and the appropriate level of care. Implements age-appropriate care, including sensitivity to assent and consent in research participation. Demonstrates expertise and compliance with established practices in documentation. Act as an administrative agent of the primary investigator, coordinating communication with government, industry and other sponsors, and divisions of Cincinnati Children's or in studies with other institutions. Coordinate and lead discussion in clinical research care conferences, committee meetings, in-services, staff conferences, council activities, seminars and literature.
Assessment- Intuitively assess participants, clients and families, whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex. Able to quickly recognize normal parameters, deviations and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental and behavioral status based on past nursing experience. Develop a complex plan of care and effectively prioritize both expected and unanticipated needs for the participants involvement in the research study and make determination of clinical relevance of study procedures and tests. Leads efforts in establishing protocol specific research study implementation and adherence goals. Demonstrate excellence in the implementation of technical skills, and has an extensive knowledge of CCHMC policies, standard operating procedures and good clinical and research practices. Demonstrate critical thinking skills by making appropriate nursing decisions, prioritizing both planned and unplanned events for protocol implementation, and proactively leading efforts to addressing potential and actual problems. Demonstrates strong leadership, personal commitment to improvement initiatives, and expedites optimal outcomes by using a broad and extensive knowledge base.
Patient/Participant Care- Recognizes and accesses systems and processes within the clinical research environment that affect the research participant experience. Makes clinical judgments based on immediate grasp of whole picture. Demonstrates expertise in identifying potential AEs throughout study & works with team to minimize risks. Works and advocates on behalf of research participant, family, & community. Adapts education, integrates, and coordinates different teaching methods to meet the learning needs of the research participant and family. Demonstrate critical thinking skills by making appropriate nursing decisions. Precepts peers and students.
Compliance- Sustain a deep understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards that govern clinical research. Support leadership in Compliance efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Acts as a resource to peers. Seeks ways to minimize risk. Organizes, directs and participates with the clinical research study staff in recruiting, enrolling and following participants through a clinical research study in accordance with regulatory requirements in a timely and efficient manner. Advocate for research participant to ensure they get the best for their involvement in the study. Educate participants/families on purpose of the research study, study procedures, potential benefits/risks, and rights of research participants during the screening and enrollment process. Ensure informed consent process is carried out correctly and all patient/participant questions and concerns are addressed prior to signing consent form.
Process Improvement- Identifies need for new policies and initiates their development. Leads others by assuming responsibilities within the research team. Provides a leadership role in developing, implementing and evaluating the conduct of clinical research. Acts as a change agent and risk taker. Assume responsibility for own learning and for identifying the learning needs of other team members. Initiate activities toward meeting those needs and integrate new knowledge into practice. Effectively overcomes personal and organizational blocks to achieve, and is a significant driving force in creating a positive work environment. Functions as a mentor and/or coach, formally or informally. Leads others in ways to improve quality, efficiency, productivity, and cost effectiveness of service.
Invites participation of various resources when appropriate to optimize research participant/patient research outcomes. Interacts confidently by promoting and expecting collaborative behavior in others. Mentors others to respect the contribution of the entire team. Leads others to work collaboratively valuing the contributions of the various disciplines in addressing research issues.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a related field
5+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
Requires clinical license and certification
Current Ohio RN license; ANCC approved certification
