Cleans, reprocesses, and sterilizes surgical instruments and equipment following established protocols. Demonstrates knowledge of emergency protocols and takes appropriate action in emergency situations. Assists in maintaining and updating physician preference cards to reflect procedural requirements. Qualifications Technical School certificate course in Surgical Technology required 15 continuing education hours related to the practice of surgical technology must be maintained annually to continue employment. This is tracked within the department by management from documentation provided by the Surgical Technician employee. 1-3 years of operating room surgical technician experience required 1-2 years of lead surgical technician responsibilities preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Expertise in surgical techniques, instrumentation, and sterile processing. BLS certification may be through any International Liaison Committee on resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off. Preferred Qualifications: Surgical Technology Certification preferred. One (1) year Operating Room experience preferred.
