They must also meet the required years of nursing experience, degree, and certification to apply for the next level. Makes recommendations for preparation of the budget for his/her cost center annually upon notification of the Director to assure cost effective operations. 7. Assures the most economical utilization of time, materials and resources through the review of workflow and staffing patterns in order to achieve optimal productivity and to provide cost effective staffing patterns that ensure appropriate utilization of staff and skill mix to provide patient care. 8. Communicates effectively with physicians, nurses, and other personnel in problem identification and resolution in a timely manner. 9. Promotes customer satisfaction through response to customer perceptions of services provided in a professional and constructive manner. Ensures the establishment and implementation of a unit culture that is responsive to patients and families. 10. Serves as a resource to appropriate QI teams. 11. Participates in various activities (i.e. staff meetings, in-services, etc.) to assist the Director in the dissemination of necessary information to staff, physicians, and others by written and/or verbal means. 12. Monitors current expense and human resource funds for his/her cost center cost effectively. 13. Spends funds in dollar amounts which are congruent with the departments’ budget and is reflective of cost containment. 14. Maintains effective communication with Medical Staff, patients, staff, and other departments as necessary to assure identification of problems and provide problem resolution in support of the hospital's mission of quality patient care delivery. 15. Through daily rounds, assesses patient/family satisfaction issues and takes appropriate action to resolve. 16. Assures the adherence of all standards and policies as set forth by WVU Medicine and the accrediting bodies for the purposes of licensure, regulation and accreditation. 17. Facilitates the professional development of personnel. Oversees and participates in the orientation, training, and continuing education of the staff (departmental and interdepartmental) and other health related personnel. 18. Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates the delivery of nursing care in accordance with Standards of Practice and Standards of Care. 19. Participates in outreach activities in the community, i.e. Speaker's Bureau, in order to educate and/or promote good relationships. As an expert clinician, is responsible for the coordination of all services/systems to ensure an organized, multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of care to all adult Hematology/Oncology patients. Assures the delivery of comprehensive cancer services through the coordination of and direct or indirect provision of expert patient care for the adult hematology/ oncology population. 2. Coordinates and monitors all phases of cancer services including: prevention/screening, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, death and dying for patients and caregivers. 3. Acts as a liaison between patients, physicians and the hospital in transitioning the patient throughout the health care system including inpatient and outpatient environments. 4. Collaborates with financial counselors and social services to assure completion of financial assessments. 5. Collaborates with Managers, and agencies regarding outlined plan of care; assists with referrals, problem solving or overcoming obstacles to enable patients to achieve optimal level of functioning. 6. Routinely monitors service schedules. Adjusts appropriately to maximize effective, efficient patient flow through intradepartmental lab, clinic or infusion center. 7. Attends inpatient /discharge rounds, tumor boards, etc., as appropriate to obtain necessary information for communication with other departments/agencies regarding patient status and health care needs. 8. Coordinates long- term follow up of patients with their local/referring physicians. 9. Maintains a retrievable patient list that includes key information such as, but not limited to name, DOB, patient status, treatment plan status. 10. Maintains written/verbal communication with referring institutions and physicians. 11. Assist with completion of health care related paperwork (i.e. Leave of absence, FMLA, return to work/school, etc.). 12. Applies nursing process to each patient and/or family based on experience, theoretical knowledge and clinical expertise 13. Provides initial teaching to patients and caregivers, performs ongoing teaching to complex/ high-risk patients and caregivers. Delegates and coordinates teaching of intermediate or low risk patients and caregivers as appropriate. 14. Evaluates the effectiveness of teaching efforts and modifies education plan as needed. 15.
