Position Summary

The Laboratory Assistant processes outpatient test requests. 

As a Laboratory Assistant, you will:

  • Perform venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis and process specimens for analysis and reference testing. With supervision, may perform waived and moderately complex testing and may perform chain-of-custody drug collections. Performs various other support services for the laboratory as assigned. Maintains required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies.
     
  • Performs duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements.
     
  • Supports the department in achieving department goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School, Equivalent, or higher
     
  • Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended

Preferred:

  • 6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office, outpatient clinic, or other medical setting 


Phlebotomy certification by ASCP or another nationally recognized certifying agency:

National Healthcare Association (NHA) --Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomy Examination (CLPlb), American Society of Clinical Pathologists-- Phlebotomy Technician Examination [PBT(ASCP)], International Academy of Phlebotomy Sciences (IAPS), National Phlebotomy Association (NPA), American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT), National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE), National Phlebotomy Solutions (NPS), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or another national certification as approved by Laboratory Service Line leadership.

Point of Care Testing Coordinator (MT or MLS) - PRN

Position Summary The Point of Care Testing Coordinator will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring institutional compliance with point of care testing regulations established by CLIA, JCAHO, and CAP accreditation agencies. The coordinator has primary responsibility for point of care testing performed outside the main lab. As a Point of Care Testing Coordinator, you will: Model ECU Health Core Values: Integrity, Compassion, Education, Accountability, Safety, and Teamwork. Serve as a liaison between clinical staff, departmental faculty, and physicians. Respond and resolve clinician complaints, as well as takes action to prevent reoccurrence. Provide technical support and guidance for point of care laboratory services within the ECU Health System. Ensure timely and accurate testing and reporting of laboratory results. Norman Regional Health System and Oceans Healthcare have partnered to expand access to behavioral health services in south central Oklahoma through construction of a new, state-of-the-art behavioral hospital. Behavioral Health Center at Porter Health Village, a 48-bed facility, will more that double Norman Regional Health System’s inpatient capacity for adult and senior behavioral health patients and add new services, including an intensive outpatient program and a dedicated geriatric behavioral health unit.
