Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing, BSN preferred
- Career Development: National Certification within 5 years of hire.
Experience / Qualifications
- Current RN licensure in the state of Florida
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.
- ACLS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.
- PALS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.
Position Summary
- The RN applies nursing process and theories and principles of psycho-social and physical sciences in assessing, planning, diagnosing, implementing, evaluating, and modifying patient care utilizing evidence-based practices.
- The RN practices autonomously within professional nursing standards, the ANA Code of Ethics, and the ANA Bill of Rights.
- The RN strives for quality outcomes and innovative practice by the Florida Nursing Practice Act and the Hospital/departmental policies.
- The RN ensures the practice is by the competency required for that area. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self (or others who are under their direction). This is done through participation in quality assurance or performance improvement initiatives.
- The RN collaboratively provides care with other disciplines to ensure optimal, individualized patient care and outcomes. In managing patient care, the RN will take a leadership role in coordinating the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with other health team members to enhance patient outcomes.
- Demonstrates the ability to function in a peri-anesthesia nurse role for surgical procedures.
- Physiologically monitors patients during bedside procedures and postoperatively as required.
- Demonstrates the ability to function in the recovery room nurse role, Phase 1 and Phase 2, for surgical procedures.
- Provides timely, accurate, and complete documentation.
- Provides education and documents on patient/family teachings on surgical procedures (i.e., medications, treatments, pain, discharge, safety, nutrition, wound care, etc.)
- Promotes a safe “error-free” working environment by consistently performing thorough hand-offs and infection prevention measures.
- Assess all body systems, and ensure safe, effective, efficient care delivery with emphasis on the absence of medication errors, avoidance of falls, and reduction of pain.
- Assumes an active role in orienting, coaching, and mentoring new staff to increase 1-year retention rates.
- The RN has a responsibility to act as an educator to their peers, patients, and their families. All aspects of the RN's performance support service excellence and a healing environment.
- The RN identifies and communicates needed unit resources or equipment to be included in the budget.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills
- At least one year of critical care experience
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and strong time management skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literate
- Works effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Ability to apply principles of evidence-based, analytical thinking, and service excellence in practice
- Analyze and interpret data and utilize the information to make judgments regarding patient care within the scope of practice and under anesthesia guidance
- On-call assignment per department and hospital policy
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to assess and report all findings based on criticality appropriately.
