The Bedford Emergency Room is a full-service emergency department serving our community. Our team consists of board-certified Emergency Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, highly trained and certified emergency nurses, Paramedics and Technicians. We are equipped and ready to care for all medical and traumatic emergencies for all age groups. 

 

This unit provides 24-hour provision of patient care services to populations ranging from infant to elderly. The Emergency Department is problem focused, addressing the most urgent and relevant clinical needs of patients during their emergency visit. The ED averages 23,000+ patient visits per year and is staffed by IU Health Southern Indiana Physicians Emergency Medicine providers.

Qualifications 

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.

  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.

  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).    

  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.     

  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

This Surgical Services unit functions within Bloomington Hospital, where we have 14 operating rooms and 2 open-heart rooms. The Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) nurse functions as an integral member of the cardiovascular surgery team, providing circulating support for a wide variety of cardiovascular procedures and assisting with anesthesia care specific to complex cardiac and vascular cases. The CVOR team manages a broad and diverse case mix, requiring strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. In addition to CVOR responsibilities, this nurse is required to circulate in the main operating room and participate in service line rotations including gynecology, neurology, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, and vascular surgery. This role also includes ensuring adherence to safety standards, efficiency, and high-quality patient care across all assigned specialties Shift Requirements (CVOR): Variety of shifts available! In addition, the CVOR team is on call every 3 rd weekend and 2-3-days throughout the week. Candidates must be able to be at the Bloomington facility within 30 minutes of on-call notice.
