The Talbot Lab (Basic Sciences Division) seeks a part-time undergraduate research intern to support ongoing exciting research on neuro-immunology, studying host-microbiota interactions in infectious diseases. This position is ideal for an individual interested in an entry-level introduction to a research lab environment, helping in the development of a project that studies how neurons regulate intestinal immunity.

 

The ideal candidate is a reliable, organized, detail-oriented individual, interested in learning and applying computational approaches in a genetic model organism (Mus musculus), including researching current literature, genomics, and modeling single cell transcriptomic datasets.

 

The position will help the trainee increase their understanding of the scientific method by developing practical dry lab skills and how to evaluate scientific articles. Internship timelines start as early as March 2026.

 

Please submit a complete CV including previous experience and lab classes. Candidates must be able to present written confirmation from their Institution’s advisor attesting that they will be receiving school credits for the internship.

Responsibilities

The intern will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator and senior-level laboratory personnel. They will gain experience and training in computational research techniques while also learning to assist their mentor with analyzing and interpreting data to support ongoing research projects.

 

The internship is part-time and requires a minimum commitment of at least 19 hours per week for 6 months (undergraduate research credits might apply).

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A motivated undergraduate student with an interest in performing research.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Beginner experience in any of the following: Python, R/R studio, Git/GitHub, mathematics/statistics, and data cleaning, transformation, or visualization.
  • Course and/or lab experience in biology to support dry lab research and data analysis.
  • Prefer students who are taking courses in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, immunology, genomics, neurobiology, microbiology, bioengineering, or data science/informatics.

This is an internship position, Fred Hutch will not provide salary, benefits or visa sponsorship to the research intern.

 

This is a fully on-site role located in Seattle/WA. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this position.

Overview This position requires e nrollment in nursing school with one (1) semester of clinicals completed, or an active CNA Patient Care Technicians will perform and document nursing care measures to meet the physical needs of patients as directed by the registered nurse.
