Medical Assistant III

Job Summary

Under the direction of management and physician leadership, performs and oversees functions related to the clinical activities including, but not limited to: maintains patient flow by assisting and promoting the delivery of primary and preventative health care, performs technical procedures, lab protocols and clinically oriented activities under physician/provider direction. The Medical Assistant III will assist management in achieving office efficiencies in accordance with stated policies/procedures to ensure efficient operations with a focus on supporting physicians, clinic staff and management which embodies the "Service First" philosophy to promote customer satisfaction.

Essential Functions

Acts as an assistant to the physician/provider by providing primary healthcare and patient care management.
Collaborates work efforts with the clerical staff to optimize operations and patient flow.
Interacts with outside healthcare facilities and agencies involving patient care and insurance.
Maintains updated competencies, demonstrating ability to speak to leadership and accreditation bodies about process and workflow.
Perform front office duties to provide coverage as needed.
Provide coverage in other departments or locations as needed.
Demonstrates excellent customer services skills and exhibits understanding and promotes the practice of safety, clinical and infection control standards.
Performs and is formally assigned (2) of the additional responsibilities as part of their primary duties, which should be at least 20% or more of dedicated time: - Primary Care gaps in care identification, outreach, and chart preparation - Residency clinic role - High level disinfection - Designated new hire preceptor - Role in practice participating in or leading special programs/grants (i.e. CPC Plus, SIM, Vaccine for Child Program, process improvement, service excellence ambassador) - Care management (PDCMs) - Qualified language interpreter - Super User for EPIC or specific competency - Advanced provider support – assisting with complex procedures and/or infusion/chemo scheduling. - Multi-site/flexible float pool assignment

Qualifications

Required High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Completion of a competency-based accredited MA program, including a clinical rotation, or equivalent experience. Certifications listed below are effective March 1, 2026. Team members may have other certifications and hire dates before March 1, 2026.

1 year of relevant experience 1 year (12 months) medical assistant experience; or completed Corewell Health medical assistant internship and (6) months medical assistant experience; or completed Corwell Health medical assistant apprenticeship program required. Required

Triage & Vital Signs : Perform triage and take vital signs accurately. Documenting Patient History : Obtain and document detailed patient history in our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system in a timely manner. Lab Specimens : Collect routine laboratory specimens, including blood, urine, and oral swabs. Medication & Injections : Administer medications and non-intravenous injections, including intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections. Clinical Procedures : Perform splinting, suture and staple removal, ear/eye wash, and procedure setup. Clinical & Laboratory Procedures : Perform basic clinical, aseptic, and laboratory procedures to support patient care. Occupational Medicine : Assist with our Occupational Medicine services, including drug screening, breath alcohol testing, audiograms, and pulmonary function testing, while adhering to company protocols. Compliance : Enforce and maintain healthcare regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and OSHA compliance. Administrative Duties : Perform office procedures and general administrative tasks; proficiently operate office medical equipment. Quality Assurance : Oversee compliance with quality assurance programs, CLIA waived laboratory requirements, and patient result trackers. Travel Requirement: Support staffing and operational needs by traveling to other Beaumont Urgent Care locations as required. Required Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications (must meet one of the following): Completion of a Medical Assistant program from an accredited institution (diploma or certificate), OR Current Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA), OR Minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in an urgent care or ER/hospital setting Clinical Skills: Proficiency in venipuncture, injections, and general clinical procedures Technical Skills: Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR); EPIC preferred Flexibility: Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays Team Player: Positive, proactive approach to patient care and collaboration At Corewell Health Urgent Care, we believe in kindness, excellence, empowerment, resilience, and proactive service.
