Under general supervision, the Medical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care services, determining medical conditions, and preparing patients for examination and treatment under the direction of the Provider.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for examination, records vital signs and history, and provides treatment as applicable
- Prepares exam/treatment rooms; select, setup, sterilize, and maintain medical supplies and equipment for procedures
- Prepare and administer injections, change dressings, and facilitate wound management under providers orders
- Collect blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens through routine in-house testing procedures, and analyze and prepare for testing, log results, and perform lab call-backs
- Document basic patient care and procedures, utilizing appropriate forms and electronic medical records
- Schedule patients for tests, initial, and follow-up appointments if applicable in care setting
- Instructs patients and family regarding treatment and medication instructions
- Collaborate, take direction, and initiate actions that will allow the assumption of cross-functional team actions to ensure seamless patient care
- Phlebotomy
- Perform opening/closing clinic duties and patient call backs
- Ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds
- Sustain excellent patient interactions using clear communication and problem-solving skills
- Assess walk-in traffic for potential emergencies
- Check-in patients at the front desk in preparation for their appointment with a provider and scan all documents into the patient’s chart
- Assist patients with completion of pre-registration forms, ensuring all items are signed, and medical records are distributed
- Informs patients of costs of care being provided. Collect all fees and apply to patients’ chart
- Collect and record copayments and outstanding balances, and balance cash drawer daily
- Cover medical records and prior authorizations when needed
- Communicate efficiently to back-office staff regarding needs of patients
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive patient information at all times
- Answer the phone in a professional manner and follow procedures for routing calls
- Ensure reception area and waiting rooms are clean. Regularly sanitize counters, surfaces, and reception area items
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent is required.
- Certificate/License: Current Certification as a Medical Assistant through one of the following programs is preferred (RMA, AAMA, NCCT, CMAC, AMCA). Current BLS certification is required.
- Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience is preferred
