RN Clinical Appeals Coordinator

Position Purpose:

Act as the liaison for all statewide appeals, fair hearings, review organizations, and other external type appeals. Responsible for ensuring that all appeal letters generated comply with both State and NCQA requirements.

  • Review clinical information for all appeals utilizing nationally recognized criteria to determine medical necessity of services requested
  • Prepare reviews for cases that did not meet criteria
  • Gather, analyze and report verbal and written information regarding member and provider clinical appeals, including information follow up
  • Prepare response letters for member and provider clinical appeals and ensure letters are compliant with State and NCQA standards.
  • Maintain files and logs for all appeals
  • Coordinate with Medical Director(s) to clarify medical determinations or clinical rationale
  • Maintain current knowledge of NCQA and State regulations
  • Coordinate Fair Hearings with various internal departments and agencies
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards

Applicants must reside in LA and have RN licensure

Education/Experience:

RN with 4+ years of clinical nursing and/or case management experience or LPN/LVN with 5+ years of clinical nursing or case management experience. Managed care or utilization review experience preferred.

License/Certification: LPN, LVN, or RN license.

Corporate & Louisiana Healthcare Connections Requirements: Current state RN, LPN, or LVN, LPC, LCSW, or Psy.D license.

Pay Range: $33.71 - $60.67 per hour

The majority of patients admitted to the CCU are cardiac patients with both medical and surgical conditions. The patient population includes CABG, Cardiothoracic surgery, Transvenous Aortic Valve Replacement, intra-aortic balloon pumps, Cardiogenic shock, V-A and V-V ECMO, acute MI, LVADs, vascular surgeries as well as other illnesses requiring intensive care. Patients in this unit frequently require ventilator support, titrating drips, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, cardiac output monitoring, pacemakers and other invasive monitoring. The nurse will be required to exhibit critical thinking and decision-making skills as well as demonstrate accurate assessment and documentation. The nurse-to-patient ratio in this unit is 1:2, which allows the nurse to collaborate with other members of the healthcare team as well as the patient and their family members for a coordinated plan of care. The nurse must be ACLS certified or willing to obtain certification, which can be done through our Training and Development Center free of charge to employees. Orientation for new grads is a structured 16-week program with an experienced preceptor. This position is open to nurses with at least 1 year of Critical Care experience or a graduate of a nursing program that includes a Critical Care rotation.
