The County of Riverside - Riverside University Health System - Community Health Center (RUHS-CHC) is currently recruiting for an experienced Per Diem Registered Nurse II/III MC/CHC to join the Palm Springs Community Health Center Clinic.

Under close supervision, provides professional nursing care to patients at the Community Health Clinics (CHC) or other RUHS locations as assigned. Assists physicians and other healthcare providers in the delivery of patient care, implements prescribed treatments and physician orders, and performs related duties to support efficient clinical operations and quality patient outcomes. Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives while mentoring and guiding subordinate nursing staff. Performs the full scope of professional nursing duties with increasing complexity, clinical skill, and sound professional judgement. 

The Registered Nurse II - MC/CHC - Per Diem is the journey level classification in the Registered Nurse - MC/CHC - Per Diem series and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. Incumbents perform the full range of professional nursing duties within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act with minimum supervision and periodic in-service training within assigned unit(s).

The Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC - Per Diem is the advanced journey level classification in the Registered Nurse - MC/CHC - Per Diem series and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. Incumbents perform nursing duties while applying advanced knowledge and skills in providing care and service to patients with more complex problems and needs within assigned unit(s). Incumbents responsibilities are expanded to include participation in activities relating to quality assurance, policy and procedure review/revision, in-service education, staff development and preceptorship.

Candidates with experience working in a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center (FQHC) setting are encouraged to apply.

License and Certification Required: 

  • A current, valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • A valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

• Assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions; make preliminary observations of patients and prepare patients for medical treatment.

Registered Nurse II MC/CHC Per Diem: 

Rate: $68.0905 per hour

Education: Successful completion of the education required to obtain a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. (A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or a health-related field may be required for some positions.)

Experience: Equivalent to one year of full-time experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital, clinic outpatient setting, or healthcare agency program. Experience gained as an Interim Permit Nurse may be credited toward meeting the required experience. Evaluations and references must show proficiency of practice as a Registered Nurse.

Knowledge of: Current principles, techniques and procedures used in professional nursing; medical terminology and patient care routine appropriate to clinical setting; medical instruments and equipment; the uses and effects of medicines and narcotics; community resources available to provide patient care and follow-up; federal, state and local laws and regulations governing professional aspects of nursing; identification of potential discharge needs; payor source documentation requirements and governmental regulations affecting reimbursement.

Experience: Three years of full time experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care facility, mental health facility, or community health agency with references and evaluations to show appropriate skill level. (A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or national certification in a nursing specialty may be considered as a substitution for one year of the required experience. A master's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing may be considered as a substitution for two years of the required experience.)

Knowledge of: Current principles, techniques and procedures used in professional nursing; medical terminology and patient care routine appropriate to clinical setting; medical instruments and equipment; the uses and effects of medicines and narcotics; community resources available to provide patient care and follow-up; federal, state and local laws and regulations governing professional aspects of nursing; identification of potential discharge needs; payor source documentation requirements and governmental regulations affecting reimbursement.

With Valve Clinic Team, initiates stroke orders and treatment plan to provide acute care, including on-going assessment, routine procedures, documentation in patient chart, family/patient counseling, education, and procedural & discharge planning. 4. Demonstrates implementation skills in accordance with EMH Standards of Care, policies, procedures, and Nurse Practice Act. 5. With the supervision of a Physician, meets with patients in the Valve Clinic Setting. 6. Demonstrates ability to change intervention strategies when expected outcomes not met. 7. Consistently documents in accordance with EMH policies and procedures. 8. Assesses and analyzes outcome Measures for continued Valve Clinic Progra. 9. Demonstrates competency in the operation of equipment specific to clinical area. 10. Provides accurate and precise reporting of patient condition and changes in a timely manner to physicians. 11. Identifies educational needs and provides comprehensive education pertaining to Valve Clinic Program. 12. Collaborates with nursing management, physicians and the Education Department to identify gaps in processes, develop and implement staff education related to Valve Clinic Program. 13. Completes age specific competency annually. 14. Coordinate research, collect and collate data and report results. Responsible for NCDR TVT Registry. 15. Complies with departmental plan to meet budget goals. 16. Demonstrates knowledge of Department of Nursing and Joint Commission required quality indicators, performance improvement and patient safety goals. 17. Develops and runs Valve clinic in coordination with Cardiac Services Director. 18. Assists with Valve Clinic Conference held monthly. 19. Performs other duties as assigned.
