What You'll Be Doing

The Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the delivery of care to patients undergoing operative and invasive procedures. The professional nurse assumes the responsibility and accountability for the delegation of patient care to other members of the health care team. As an integral member of the health care team, coordinates patient care and communicates and collaborates extensively with the other members of the healthcare team, patients and/or patient's family or significant other(s). Maintains and demonstrates high standards of professional ethics.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Assess patients before surgery and alleviate their concerns

Gather all supplies needed for the operation

Keep operating room sterlized

Position and prepare patient on the operating table

Pass medical instruments or other objects/supplies to the surgeon during operation

Monitor patient vital signs to detect anomalies

Evaluate patient in post-operative phases

Adhere to safety standards and precautions

What We're Looking For

12-hour x 3 days Mon-Fri, 6:30am to 7pm. On-call required on weekday and weekend.

Associates Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
Must possess licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey
Previous general, orthopedic, vascular and endoscopic surgery preferred.
Completion of a BLS, ACLS (American Heart Association), and IV certification.
Must have 1-2 years of relevant work experience.
Must demonstrate excellent customer service, communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills.

Applies warm and cold compresses, consistent with facility procedure; performs irrigations, consistent with Facility procedure; performs other procedures related to skin care, as necessary; administers medications correctly and safely; correctly identifies medication in terms of action, dosage, side effects, and implications for the patient; meets standard on medication administration examination; demonstrates preparation of local solutions. Administers and documents medication correctly; educates patients and significant others related to drug and food interactions; educates patients and significant others related to drug and food interactions; participates in patient and family education; provides patient with an explanation of his/her condition as indicated; communicates assessment data in an orderly fashion by recording, updating and verbalizing pertinent information to care team members and to appropriate agencies; recognizes and utilizes health teaching opportunities and resources /materials available for this teaching; provides for early discharge planning and appropriate referrals for post-hospital care; evaluates the effectiveness of teaching by feedback from patient/ family and documents same. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions. Job Qualification Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, preferred. Must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two (2) years and obtain a BSN Degree within five (5) years of job entry date. Current License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
