RESPONSIBILITIES:  
As a Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse, you will be responsible for providing a friendly, welcoming, and confidential environment for our Veterans who have served our country valiantly. We are seeking healthcare professionals who are driven and committed to ensuring the health and well-being of our nation's Veterans. 
  • Office hours are Mon - Fri 8:00am to 4:30pm
  • This is a Full-Time position. No On-Call! No evening or weekend work! No holidays!
  • Interviews patients, measures vital signs and records information in patient’s electronic medical record
  • Obtain medical histories from patients; verify patient information
  • Prepare, assist, and accurately complete all forms
  • Support patient care delivery
  • Assist providers during examinations and treatment
  • Take vital signs and perform all ancillary tests appropriate to skill level, certifications, and state regulations
  • Perform ancillary testing and tasks as ordered by the Center Medical Director (PFT, EKG, injections, audiograms, blood draws, etc.) and as certified
  • Collects lab Specimens from patients and submits received results to medical providers.
  • Schedule clinic appointments, patient check-in and/or out of the clinic, and verify all clinical reminders due at the time of each visit.
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS:  
  • High School Diploma/GED 
  • Active NCCA accredited certification is required for Medical Assistants.
  • Current and active state Nursing License for LPN interests
  • Knowledge of computer systems to include the MS Office Suite
  • Cross training with Telehealth responsibilities
  • Demonstrate high-quality customer service 
  • Two years of continuous experience in clinical operations or medical office work post externship
  • Basic Life Support certification from American Heart Association

Medical Assistant II - Neurology Clinic

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Neurology is looking to hire a Medical Assistant II under direct supervision of LIP (licensed independent practitioner), RN (registered nurse), NM/ANM (nurse manager/assistant nurse manager) or other licensed designee, that will function as a member of the ambulatory patient care team. This individual will perform technical, patient care and related clerical functions in an ambulatory setting by coordinating all elements of the patient visit. Position Responsibilities Responsible for facilitating the smooth flow of patients through the clinic, interacting with patients, families, nursing staff and LIP’s to the satisfaction of all parties involved. Assists in clinic with physical examination of patient and related treatments according to patient condition and age, including but not limited to: patient history and screenings, vital signs, medication history, allergies and immunizations. Provides information to patients using pre-printed and pre-approved documents. Collects specimens for routine and specialized testing such as urinalysis and venipuncture using proper collection techniques and special processes as defined by specific specimen collection requirements. Performs routine tests and procedures, including POC tests, under the direction of the LIP or per protocol. Administers routine oral, rectal or injectable medications and vaccinations within the scope of practice and per established protocols.
