POSITION SUMMARY
The Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) functions as part of Radiation Oncology team in an outpatient setting. The Radiation Oncology RN conducts thorough nursing assessments and works with a multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans for patients.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES
- Coordinates patient care with licensed practitioners, physicists, dosimetrists, and other applicable clinical professionals to ensure seamless and high-quality treatment.
- Serves as the central point of contact for all Radiation Oncology navigated patients, including interactions with medical, nursing and ancillary service providers.
- Assists with simulation and patient positioning to ensure comfort and accurate execution of prescribed therapies.
- Provides thorough Radiation-specific education and support to patients and families throughout their treatment journey.
- Assesses and monitors patients during CT procedures, administering emergency medications due to adverse reactions if necessary.
- Monitors patients compliance and progress with treatment plan and assists patients with referrals to outside resources and care coordination.
- Supports patients and families with compassionate emotional support and provides resources to patients and families, addressing concerns to enhance overall patient experience.
Work Experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Associate’s degree in Nursing (ASN) or Nursing Diploma.
- Work Experience: One (1) years’ experience in the Oncology clinic setting.
- Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) Licensure in the State of Florida or endorsement.
- Certification: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
- Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and any related programs.
- Demonstrates proficiency in assessments specific to radiation oncology patients.
- Demonstrated ability to work in an often stressful environment with patients and their families at various ages and levels of understanding.
- Expert ability to handle multiple priorities at once.
- Ability to respond appropriately to life-threatening situations.
- Utilize critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to resolve issues.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Work Experience: Three (3) years’ experience in the Oncology clinic setting.
- Certification: Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently.
- May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
- May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead.
- May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
- May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise.
- May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
- Workspace may vary from open to confined..
- May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
