This full-time school nursing position in Independence, MO offers an opportunity to provide specialized care to a 4th-grade student with complex medical needs. The nurse will support a female student who uses a G-tube, wheelchair, and has a seizure disorder, ensuring her health and safety throughout the school day. The role requires riding the bus with the student to and from Rising Hill Elementary and serving as the primary nurse at the elementary site.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing individualized nursing care and managing medical needs for a special needs student
- Operating the school health clinic independently, including assessment and triage when the student is not present
- Supporting students across all grade levels (PreK-12) with flexibility in schedule and assignments
- Performing accurate and timely electronic health documentation
- Collaborating with school staff to develop and implement health plans
Qualifications and experience desired:
- Current RN license in Missouri with a clear NURSYS record
- Recent nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics, ICU, ER, or school nursing settings (no new graduates)
- Comfort working autonomously as the sole nurse on site and making clinical decisions
- Excellent technological skills for electronic charting and multitasking
- Ability to adapt to a flexible schedule and varied caseload across multiple grade levels
Shift hours are approximately 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM. The selected candidate will participate in a prescreen phone interview, followed by a zoom interview with the school coordinator.
