Under general supervision, guided by the policies and procedures of the Medical Center and Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with providers and administrative management, the Ambulatory Oncology Nurse Care Coordinator works autonomously, utilizing the nursing process, to assess, plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate patient care within the ambulatory setting for a panel of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients with oncology related conditions. S/he will utilize a high level of clinical knowledge to fulfill patient needs, ensure efficient patient care, and provide patient education when necessary. The Clinical Nurse II will act as a patient advocate and as a liaison between insurance companies, inpatient/outpatient services, patients/families and all other necessary healthcare services to manage and facilitate efficient and timely care received in clinic as well as coordination of care. In addition, the Clinical Nurse II will assist in the development of patient care standards and practices.

In addition, the Clinical Nurse II will assist in the development of patient care standards and practices.
The Clinical Nurse II Is Responsible For
- clinic procedures needed by Oncology patients including but not limited to central line care and dressing changes, lab draws, port access, medication administration, assistance during lumbar punctures including medication administration, patient assessment and any needed nursing interventions.
- coordinating outpatient services and needs including assisting with insurance authorizations, contacting home health companies, assuring DME and other home supplies are adequate, assisting with medication refill requests, manage any needs for research studies/submissions, patient teaching and assisting in the overall coordination of timely patient care.
Required Qualifications
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing RN experience, of which one year shall be in pediatrics.
- Experience with use and care of portocaths, central lines and drawing labs required.
- Phlebotomy experience required
- PDRN minimum 1-year recent clinical RN experience in pediatric care.
- Knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
- Recent experience in the use of electronic medical record documentation
- Pediatric Oncology/BMT experience including:
- Pediatric Oncology/BMT outpatient experience
- Pediatric Oncology/BMT Case management experience
- If associating with an SCC, have a minimum of one-year pediatric clinical experience providing nursing care for patients with the disease(s) or related condition(s) specific to that SCC.
- BSN preferred
- Experience and fluency in working with computers
- Knowledge of UCSF and APEX
- Proficiency in triaging patients and situations
- Ability to multitask
- Self-directed
- Organized
- Working well across multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Ability and experience managing large case loads
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
- Current CPR through the American Heart Association
