This position is responsible for functioning as both a caregiver and care manager.  In the caregiver role, the RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame implementing the Nursing Process. In the role of care manager, the RN directs and oversees the work of other caregivers, (nurses and non-nurses) via delegation, coordination, supervision, and validation/evaluation of patient care outcomes. The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of Patient Care Services along with having the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates.

This is a part-time 24 hours/week position working two 12-hours shifts from 7:00am-7:30pm on various days Monday-Friday with scheduled mandatory call.

EXTRA INCENTIVE:

Up to $7,500 sign on bonus, subject to two-year Hospital Sign on Advance Agreement. (External candidates only.)

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The individual in this position reports to the Nursing Department Director, House Supervisor, Charge Nurse, and other designated supervisory staff on duty. This position works closely with patients, physicians, and other clinicians in order to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Performs assessment/data collection, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status.
  2. Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner by utilization of/adherence to pre-determined procedures, policies and care plans.
  3. Identifies patient/significant other learning needs, readiness for learning, and implements patient teaching as defined by policy and care plans.
  4. Documents in patient’s chart, via electronic medical records and/or paper processes, per policy and in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
  5. Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient/significant other and family rights, as identified by Samaritan Healthcare regardless of race, age, religion, color, creed, sex, national origin, or any other classification protected by law; and regardless of ability to pay.
  6. Demonstrates appropriate delegation of patient care activities. Functions effectively to supervise assigned coworkers.
  7. Demonstrates effective organization and priority setting utilizing sound critical thinking.

  9. May be required to function as a Charge Nurse to include: Delegation of patient assignment/re-assignment; assists/informs with admits, discharges, and transfers; coordinates staff coverage for breaks; helps staff problem-solve; serves as a lead for unit. 
  10. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  11. Functions with awareness of/adherence to safety requirements. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
  12. Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures as well as labor agreements.
  13. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization’s values.
  14. Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
  15. Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required, by management be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.

Additional Position Qualifications/Competencies by Unit:

      Short Stay

  1. ACLS (AHA Advanced Life Support) certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire and renewed every 2 years.
  2. PALS (AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or PEARS (AHA Pediatric Advanced Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization) certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire and renewed every 2 years.
  3. CAPA certification preferred.
  4. TOTAL JOINT PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS:

    • 8 hours of orientation training
    • 8 hours annual training
    • Performance expectations
    • Follow the pathway for total joint replacement dependent on area of specialty

     

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    • Education:
    1. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
    • License:
    1. Current Washington State RN Licensure.
    • Certification:
    1. HCP (Healthcare Provider) Level of BLS (Basic Life Support) within 30 days of hire – AHA or equivalent.
    • Experience:
    1. Experience as an acute care registered nurse preferred.
    2. Minimum one year of RN experience preferred for specialty nursing departments.
    • Skills/Competencies:
    1. Ability to perform the primary functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of all assigned patients.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
    2. Manual dexterity, light physical effort, ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. (supplies and equipment). Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate 8 to 12 hours per shift and adroitly manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines.
    3. Physical strength to perform CPR (bed/floor), lift and push/pull 60 to 300 pounds (with assistance) as often as 20 times per 8 to 12 hours and perform constant walking, twisting, turning, and stretching maneuvers in patient care and use of equipment.
    4. Keen mental faculties to perform assessment and decision-making skills in the management of acutely ill patients.
    5. Good reading eyesight. Is able to see clearly 20 feet or more, to judge distance and space relationships, and to see peripherally. Visual acuity to observe patient assessment data and use manual/automated documentation tools.
    6. Emotional stability: Conducive to dealing with a high stress level for 8 to 12 hours at a time associated with caring for acute patients/families, fast-paced physical activity, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and their families, and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers.
    7. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
