A contracted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) opportunity is available in Phoenix, AZ, serving a high school student with specialized medical needs. This role is ideal for an LPN or LVN with experience in school settings, seeking an immediate start through the end of the school year, with the possibility to renew for the following year based on fit and performance.
Responsibilities include providing comprehensive nursing care to a female student diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a condition that results in significant muscle weakness. The student is non-ambulatory and uses a wheelchair. The nurse will be responsible for managing the health risks associated with this condition, particularly the risk of aspiration and respiratory illness, and providing cough assistance as needed, including during transportation on the school bus. Accompanying the student on the bus ride is a required aspect of the role.
Key Qualifications and Requirements:
- Current Arizona Instructional Assistant (IA) certification
- IVP Fingerprint Card for background clearance
- CPR and First Aid certification (both are mandatory, not only CPR or CPR/BLS)
- Experience working with students with complex medical needs is highly desirable
- Ability to work collaboratively with school staff and family to support the students health and educational needs
