SUMMARY: Under the supervision of a licensed Physician, performs a variety of duties to encompass, but not limited to the care and management of orthopedic patients. Works in a collaborative team environment that supports the academic mission to train orthopedic residents. Provides inpatient and emergency department consults, pre and post-operative management of patients, assistance with procedures, wound care, and other patient care duties. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patient. Provides education for nursing staff as needed Provide patient education during the daily delivery of care and during pre- and post-operative settings. Participates in Orthopedics Service Educational activities. Annually completes required training in orthopedics. Performs other related duties, as required. none MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Bachelor’s Degree and two years of graduate study in an AMA approved Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program. Current licensure as Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the State of Rhode Island. An extremely high level of analytical ability in order to apply post-surgical training to the treatment of patients. Good interpersonal skills in order to deal effectively with patients and nursing personnel. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. EXPERIENCE: Experience in General Orthopedics, Surgery and Emergency Room procedures preferred but not required. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care. INDEPENDENT ACTION: Performs independently within the departments policies and practices.
