JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Performs sexual assault examinations while practicing within the scope of practice of the Oregon State Board of Nursing. Identifies medical stability or injuries, collects forensic evidence, provides/arranges for counseling and follow up care and testifies in courts when summoned. Collaborates with law enforcement, medical staff and community resources.

The regional sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) center provides services and resources to Linn, Benton and Lincoln counties in a private and secure facility. Staffed by nurses with specialized training, the SANE center provides immediate medical treatment, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, to patients who have experienced sexual violence. Additional counseling and patient support is also available.

Current unencumbered Oregon RN Licensure required.
Two (2) years RN experience required, one (1) year experience must be in an acute care setting.
Healthcare Provider BLS required.
AGH Sane Nurse Program:

IAFN SANE-A or Oregon Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner certification required within one (1) year of hire.

Coordinates and communicates with patients, families, and the health care team to develop mutually agreeable plans of care that optimize the use of resources to support the particular needs of individual patients. Facilitates resolution of issues which present barriers to safe transfers through the use of patient/team care conferences to assure the efficient transition to a lower level of care and to assure the patient/family receives the right care at the right time so that quality and utilization of resources are simultaneously enhanced. Ensures systematic and ongoing contact with interdisciplinary staff and continuing care services to assure the safe transition of patients across care settings. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide day to day guidance, support and direction to direct patient care staff, providing informal feedback on an ongoing basis and formal feedback input for the annual performance evaluation. Participate in the department staffing and the appropriate hiring, firing and disciplinary actions. Recommend disciplinary action to Facility Administrator and initiate as appropriate. Act as the subject matter expert and as a resource for staff members. Supervise and participate in completion of short and long term care plans. Admit new patients according to facility procedure. Ensure educational needs of patients are met and educate the patient and family about End Stage Renal Disease, dialysis therapy, diet and medication. Supervise the safe and effective use of all equipment involved in direct patient care. Operate all dialysis related and emergency equipment safely and efficiently when needed. Perform required testing and verification and initial the checklist for start-up and shut-down procedures as outlined in the Technical Services Manual. Complete Nurse’s Technical Training Program/Water Quality Facility Assist with special projects or other duties as assigned by the Facility Administrator Assist with the interviewing of potential direct patient care staff Promote efficient use of medical supplies. Attend and participate in monthly Quality Assurance meetings. Additional responsibilities may include focus on one or more departments or locations.
