Clinical Educator – Emergency Room
Position Summary
The Clinical Educator in the Emergency Room (ER) is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating education programs and initiatives that support the professional development of nursing staff and allied healthcare providers. The role ensures clinical staff is equipped with the skills, knowledge, and competencies required to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care in a fast-paced, acute care environment. The Clinical Educator collaborates with leadership, clinical teams, and external stakeholders to maintain compliance with healthcare standards and foster a culture of continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Education and Training
- Develop and deliver orientation programs for new ER staff, including nurses, technicians, and support personnel.
- Provide individualized coaching and mentoring to staff, addressing knowledge gaps or skill deficits.
- Clinical Competency Assessment
- Assess staff competencies through direct observation, skills validation, and evaluation of performance metrics.
- Collaborate with management to identify and address areas requiring additional training or remediation.
- Program Development
- Create evidence-based education materials and clinical guidelines in alignment with best practices.
- Regulatory Compliance and Quality Improvement
- Ensure education programs meet regulatory requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, state boards).
- Support quality improvement initiatives by identifying educational needs based on patient care outcomes and staff feedback.
- Collaboration and Leadership
- Act as a liaison between the education department and ER leadership to align training with organizational goals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary committees to support emergency care standards and innovation.
- Professional Development
- Promote lifelong learning and professional growth by providing resources for certifications, continuing education, and career advancement opportunities.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience in an emergency department.
- Experience in education, training, or leadership roles preferred.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Certification in Nursing Education (CNE) or Emergency Nursing (CEN) preferred.
- Strong clinical expertise in emergency care.
- Excellent teaching, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
