What you will be doing in this roleThe Clinical Nurse IV (CNIV), is an expert clinician who demonstrates a high level of knowledge and expertise in a specialty as well as general nursing. The Clinical Nurse IV performs within the scope of responsibility, duties and accountability of the Nurse Practice Act and possesses the clinical/ technical skills and demonstrates excellence in all areas of nursing practice including nursing care delivery, staff education and collaboration. The CNIV manages complex, unpredictable patient care situations in their assigned area and is a nursing shift leader. The CNIV serves as the expert mentor in the area of responsibility with the goal of increasing nurse engagement, professional development of their staff, and safe quality care with improved outcomes.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Serves as a clinical and operational resource for all nursing activities in the department. When in charge, oversees and authorizes incidental overtime; Provides assistance to co-workers, new staff, temporary staff, and students including on issues with complex variables, interpreting lab diagnostic data, and providing assistance for complex patients.
- Provides advanced assessment skills, integrating appropriate data sources to assess the signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors, or general appearance to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics.
- Provides direct and indirect comprehensive care services to complex patients, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care.
- Performs skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy, and the initiation of peripheral venous access.
- Delegates and assigns tasks to licensed and unlicensed health care workers within the scope of their job responsibilities
- Coaches and supports nursing staff in the application of advanced clinical skills and critical thinking to support patient care activities; acts as a change champion; contributes to performance evaluations.
- Evaluates, facilitates, and promotes patient flow, coordinates discharge planning and team rounding as applicable including identifying existing patient care problems or recurring clinical issues.
- Assists with strategic planning; participates in activities related to recruitment and retention.
- Evaluates and works to improve the process of patient care delivery within the assigned area.
- Provides expert comprehensive direct and indirect care to the specific population's needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family, and condition needs.
- Identifies and assesses patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations. Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates the effectiveness of intervention for the patient.
- Assists as a chaperone when needed upon completion of the required Chaperone Training.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
- 5 years Relevant ambulatory or acute care experience in a specialty required
- Valid CA Registered Nurse license required
- Basic Life Support through AHA or ARC required
- ANCC Specialty Nursing certification required
