(New Rochelle, Rye, Yonkers, and Greenwich, CT) Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities: URGENT CARE VISITS: The Urgent Care RN utilizes evidenced based knowledge and the nursing process to provide patient-centered care to individuals with non-urgent and urgent illnesses/injuries Gathers current symptoms and detailed patient history in order to efficiently consult and coordinate with the providers to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care Oversees patient care provided by Licensed Practical Nurses and Medical Assistants in the Urgent Care Responsible and accountable for delegating and coordinating care provided to Urgent Care patients Performs approved technical procedures competently (e.g., EKG, phlebotomy, starting/ monitoring IVs, selected laboratory tests, etc.) as may be required in clinical practice area Demonstrates a proactive approach to patient care, focusing on addressing each patient’s individual and family needs at the time of service; communicates identified needs in a timely manner Performs triage assessments and reports emergencies within the system Participates in QI and QA projects related to the highest standard of patient care Adheres to all standards required by the Urgent Care Association Accreditation Maintains daily logs and emergency equipment Performs initial and ongoing assessments as needed and monitors changes in the physical and psycho/social needs of patients utilizing the nursing process Effectively and competently addresses patient phone calls, provides lab results, and schedules same-day appointments as necessary based on UC policies Educates and counsels patient and/or caregiver with provisions for follow-up Prepares the patient for and assists in complex procedures and treatments CHARTING: Patient charting is entered into the EMR accurately and in a timely manner Provides clinical direction to the support staff (LPNs, Medical Assistants) MISCELLANEOUS: Utilizes principles of infection control in the delivery of care Adheres to COVID-19 policies and policies. BSN Required. Knowledge of current nursing, medical and health trends and practices in rendering of patient care. One year of acute care nursing experience preferred for areas other than medical surgical or step-down BLS certification (through American Heart Association) is required. ACLS certification (through American Heart Association) is required for all RNs, except for NICU and OR RNs. All newly hired, inexperienced nurses must receive this certification within 12 months. All newly hired, experienced nurses must receive this certification within 6 months. PALS certification (through American Heart Association) is required for all RNs working in the PACU, 5I Pediatrics, Emergency Department, Armonk Urgent Care, Ambulatory Surgery and 226 Ambulatory Surgery Center. All newly hired, inexperienced nurses must receive this certification within 12 months. All newly hired, experienced nurses must receive this certification within 6 months. NRP certification is required for all RNs working in the Mother-Baby unit, Labor & Delivery, and NICU. All newly hired nurses to the NICU, L&D, and Mother-Baby must receive this certification within 6 months. Effective 10/31/25 all RNs working on 5I are required to have NRP. Experienced RNs will have 6 months to obtain and new graduates will have 12 months. All registered nurses and advanced practice nurses providing direct oncology care must demonstrate one of the following: Current cancer-specific certification in the nurse’s specialty by an accredited certification program. Oncology nursing certifications that qualify include, but are not limited to: AOCNP®, AOCNS®, AOCN®, BMTCN®, CPHON®, CPON®, CBCN® OCN® or Ongoing education by earning 36 cancer-related continuing education nursing contact hours every 3 years (maintained by department manager) Registered Nurses in the Emergency Department must complete de-escalation training within 1 year of hire to transfer to the Emergency Department. Successful completion of Department and Unit Orientation Program.
