Responsibilities

Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.

  • Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
  • Hand required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
  • Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
  • Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitors/tracks instruments counts throughout procedures.

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted required.
  • One or more of the following required:
    • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
    • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

The Surgical Technologist position is primarily responsible to perform “scrub” duties under the direction of a registered nurse and assist the physician during procedures as directed by the physician, assist in preparing for surgical procedures either routine or emergency, assisting in the maintenance of equipment and supplies, and other tasks assigned by supervisor. The Surgical Technologist (ST) is responsible for the provision of patient care to meet identified patient outcomes, and to achieve the goals of the facility as direct by the Registered Nurse. The ST performs duties according to scope of practice designated by the facility position description, role and responsibilities and according to the surgical technician professional organization. Fosters guest relations within the team and with patients and families. Maintains confidentiality of all patient information. Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of the plan of care. Adjusts patient care based on the age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of patients. Participates in educational and performance improvement activities. Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job: Education and Formal Training : High school graduate or equivalent required Completion of Surgical Technologist Course from an Accredited CAHEA Program preferred Work Experience : 1 year experience as a surgical technologist preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required : Works with complex monitoring and life- saving equipment. Reads, writes, and speaks English. Knowledge of Standard Precautions. Position involves skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material. Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific physiological/psychosocial/ developmental/ spiritual needs of patients typically served. Demonstrates self-directed learning and achievement of assigned clinical area objectives.
