ACPTC NURSE

Job Summary:

The position will provide direct care and treatment to residents adjudicated as Sexually Violent Persons, upon release from incarceration. All admissions and discharges from ACPTC are court ordered. The position provides court ordered services, medical, dental, and behavioral health including counseling and medication. Staff work on a rotating schedule and may be required to work any day of the week to meet the needs of the treatment center and residents. Responsible and accountable for resident care during assigned shift. Establishes resident priorities and evaluates resident outcomes. Transcribes physician's orders and administers

Job Duties:

- Provides direct psychiatric and medical nursing care to residents; attends group activities, assist residents with activities of daily living; observation of behavior and physical status.

– Transcribe doctor's orders, medication and chart review, administer medication and treatments and counts accountable medication. Performs triage duties with sick call as well as assisting doctor in sick call with nursing input. Preforms wound care duties on daily basis for chronic resident conditions.

– Conducts random UDS and ETOH tests complete with documentation as dictated by policy. Performs lab draws as necessary. Receives, documents, and distributes self-medications per policy. Conducts random medication counts to ensure resident compliance with self-medication protocol.
– Performing chart reviews

– Documentation in resident records, complete nursing assessments, summaries, and other documentation as needed.

– Attend and participate in resident staffing's, treatment planning conferences, doctor's rounds

– Provides orientation, supervision, on the job training to new employees: assists in evaluation of job performance; acts as a resource person for unit employees.

- Attends in-service training to maintain or increase knowledge of leadership, medical-surgical and psychiatric nursing updates, and legal aspects of nursing, etc.

-Maintains safe, therapeutic clinical environment keeps supplies updated and replenished. Assumes charge nurse responsibilities when assigned.

-Other duties as assigned as related to the position (typically 5% - 10%)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

− This position requires incumbent to have and maintain a current Arizona RN license

Knowledge of:
-Principles of psychiatric nursing and general principles of medical, geriatric and forensic nursing; the nursing process in the development of resident care plans; psychiatric rehabilitation, pharmacology, infection control
-Effective communication techniques, both oral and written
-Applicable hospital/treatment policies and procedures; patient rights and responsibilities
-Concepts of performance improvement activities
-Basic computer programs and software related to the health record and the completion of unit reports
-Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies

Skill in:
-Assessment of patient's physical and mental status
-Patient's needs
-Communicating with patients, nursing staff, members of the treatment team and other departments
-Therapeutic interventions; providing education to patients and staff

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate will possess at least two years of progressive responsibility in a security and/or behavioral health setting, preferably in a mental health care facility or in hospital/institutional security, or law enforcement work experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Must possess a valid and current RN license to practice in Arizona.
Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR and NVCI certification.
A State Hospital employee must possess a valid level one fingerprint clearance card issues pursuant to A.R.S.41-1758.07.

Retirement:

To help you build a financially secure future, the State makes monthly contributions to finance your retirement benefit. The State will make a contribution to the ASRS in an amount equal to your contribution. In other words, you and the State will each pay 50% of the total cost of the benefit. New State employees have a 27 week wait period for contributions to begin.
