Job Description

  • Provides timely and thorough clinical information to insurance companies and other intermediaries to secure payer authorizations and avoid denials or reduction in level of care.
  • Performs daily surveillance of observation cases and works with PA discussing any barriers to progression of care or discharge.
  • Intervenes proactively to avoid denials or delays in authorization.
  • Actively communicates information to other CM team members and interdisciplinary teams regarding progress or payer issues related to continued hospitalization and post-acute service associated with the patients discharge plan.
  • Refers cases and issues to Physician Advisors or Designees in compliance with department procedures with timely follow up as indicated
  • Assists in identification and collection of avoidable days
  • Coordinates with the CM RN and/or CMA to identify and complete the process for CMS required patient notices.
  • Completes and documents utilization reviews, physician advisor referrals and other communications related to assigned cases in accordance with department policy and procedure.
  • Complies with the Condition of Code 44 process, CMS required patient notices and other regulatory requirements within the utilization management process.
  • Maintains proficiency in the application of organization selected clinical review criteria sets evidenced through IRR testing

The successful candidate will: Report directly to the RN Case Management Manager. Review patient records for chief complaints, signs and symptoms of disease to justify medical necessity for admission to acute inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) per Milliman Care Guidelines (MCGs). Provide critical feedback per established MCGs. Collaborate with social workers, referring case managers, and physicians for alternative care sites when appropriate. The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services, and provides subsidized child care vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community. The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) Office of Child and Family Health (OCFH) delivers and oversights direct medical services to children entering foster care and ensures that the physical health care provided is comprehensive and appropriate. OCFH offers individualized case consultations and training to ACS staff and foster care agencies on a variety of health-related topics. The office also conducts research and provides clinical expertise in developing health and mental health policies that support best case practice agency wide including Child Welfare Programs, Youth and Family Justice, and Early Care and Education. The Medical Audit Unit within OCFH reviews foster care medical records and ensures compliance with the established health standards for children in foster care.
