GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the building principals and the Coordinator of Health Services, this position provides health services to students and staff in Stafford County Public Schools (SCPS) on an as-needed basis. This role is crucial in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for students, ensuring continuity of care when the regular school nurse is absent. The substitute will adhere to all SCPS policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations.

MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide Health Services to Students
  • Provide direct nursing care, first aid, and emergency care to students and staff.
  • Administer medications and perform medical procedures as prescribed by a physician and in accordance with SCPS policy.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records.
  • Assess students who are ill or injured and determine appropriate interventions, including dismissal from school or referral to a healthcare provider.
  • Communicate with parents, teachers, and administrators regarding student health issues.
  • Assist with health screenings (e.g., vision and hearing) as needed.
  • Respond to and manage medical emergencies.
  • Ensure a safe and sanitary clinic environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Must hold a valid, active Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Previous experience in a school setting, pediatric care, or public health is preferred but not required.
  • Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED required
