Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct care to those ill or injured 

  • Screening and referral if needed for health care conditions 

  • Medication administration, chronic illness management 

  • Assist in promoting healthy, safe environment 

  • Act as liaison between school, family and physician. 

  • Audit immunization records and student health forms 

  • Document in the EMR per school system 

  • Educate Staff on student on health related issues and treatments as needed 

  • Complete online continuing education and attend meetings as requested. 

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor 

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

Valid, active license in the state of Georgia 

BLS certification 

Education Required:

Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing

The school nurse LPN provides health care to students and staff at their assigned location according to our policies and procedures. The school nurse LPN assesses and evaluates students and staff to ensure the health, comfort and safety of students and staff. The nurse provides onsite management of chronic illnesses, assist students with self-administration of medication as ordered by physician, treatments as ordered and provides care to those that are sick or injured at school. The nurse participates in school related meetings, such as 504, IEP, SST, and safety meetings. The nurse provides training to staff, students and families as appropriate.

Collaborate with physician and RN frequently to ensure patient needs are being met; Notify them as soon as possible when patient condition changes. Teach patients and caregivers self-care techniques. Check vital signs. Review all medications and perform a medication reconciliation at each visit. Perform specialized procedures ordered by physician ( i.e. foley catheter change). Prepare equipment and materials for treatments using the aseptic technique. Complete documentation timely and accurately. Qualifications One year of clinical LPN experience.
