Duties Description

RN1s coordinate nursing care activities with other health care disciplines involved in the treatment effort to relate and integrate the nursing regimen with the total treatment plan of the residents. Observe nursing care and visit residents to ensure that the nursing care is carried out as directed and treatment is administered in accordance with physician's orders, and to ascertain the need for additional or modified services. Based on a comprehensive review of the resident's background, review and evaluate nursing care plans to ensure the nursing care, procedures and practices selected will best serve the resident's physical and mental needs. You may also act as a charge nurse on a unit and be responsible for maintaining inventory standards for medicine, controlled drugs and narcotics

Minimum Qualifications

Open to NYS Employees: Currently licensed as Registered Nurse and eligible to transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law Open to the Public: There will be no written examination. Applicants not currently in a permanent Nurse 2 title or on the eligible list must meet the following qualifications.

On or before the date of filing your application you must be licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State AND have one year of full-time post-RN licensure clinical nursing experience.

Continued employment will be contingent upon maintaining a valid NYS license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with the Geriatric population

Additional Comments

  • Salary reflects the contractual salary range at step 4 and a geographic pay differential of $35,000 and downstate adjustment of $4,000 for New York City, Westchester, and Suffolk counties. Salary also includes shift differential for evening and night shift and $575.00 inconvenience pay.

NY HELPS: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply (see minimum qualifications above). At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making permanent non-competitive appointments.

At a future date (within one year of appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
