Job Summary and Qualifications

We are seeking a PACU Nurse for our ambulatory surgery center who demonstrates the values of our company by caring like family. You will ensure safe and effective nursing care rendered postoperatively until the patient is dismissed from the facility. With your expertise, our center will continue its’ legacy of employing nurses who contribute to the company’s mission and vision.

What you will do in this role:

Prepare your patients’ care area adequately and ensure necessary equipment and supplies and provided
You will demonstrate proper airway management techniques
Monitor your patients according to policy (vital signs, temperature, cardiac, etc.).
You will exhibit proper technique for insertion, maintenance, and removal of IV catheters and saline locks
Perform and document head to toe evaluation of your patients utilizing an approved scoring system in line with HCA policy and procedure
Check dressings and/or operative site of your patients and report abnormalities to the surgeon
Provide a safe and comforting environment for your patients and family
Ensure your patients meet discharge criteria

Qualifications you will need:

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
Minimum 1 year of experience in a PACU or ICU setting; preferably in an ambulatory surgery center
Active RN license as required by state of employment
Required valid BCLS Certification upon employment. ***online certification not acceptable
ACLS required
PALS as required by facility

Even though most patients do not remember the PAT / PreOp / PACU nurse that attended to their needs, they play an imperative role in helping patients start on the road to recovery. Position Responsibilities Pre-admissions Testing Nurse Duties: Pre-admission testing nurse or PAT nurse duties include overseeing intake, during which you perform an initial physical assessment and interview the patient to obtain their medical history. PAT duties include performing any tests the surgeon has ordered, such as an EKG, and may be expected to draw blood for lab work. PAT nurses are often among the first people patients deal with as they prepare to have surgery. The PAT nurse is expected to help patients understand the process, answer any questions they might have, and discuss their post-surgical care plan with them. Preoperative Duties of Nurse: Manage patients’ admission processes to preoperative department in a hospital. Assess the status of patients’ health in pre-op and ensure accuracy of identification wristband. Ensure that operative and informed consents are in order. Determine the surgeon and procedure being carried out. Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure. Initiate IVs and ensure that patients are informed about the procedure and attending medical staff. Post-operative Duties of PACU Nurse: Assess patients’ condition after a surgery has been performed. Ensure that all vitals are within normal range. Log all findings in patients’ files. Answer patients’ questions and ensure that they are kept comfortable. Make sure that all relevant IVs are in check. Develop individualized care plans based on each individual patient’s condition. Ensure that all nursing activities are carried out in accordance to the individual patient care plan. Initiate patient education programs to ensure that both patients and families are educated on procedures and medications. Determine when patients are ready to be moved to their rooms. Perform intervention duties in cases of post-operative emergencies. Record sedation levels and body temperature. Manage blood and fluid transfusions and draw specimens. Ensure that the post-operative space is clean and sanitized. Change bandages and dress surgical wounds.
