Responsibilities

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Diagnoses disease, illness, disorder or injury, institutes treatment of patients.
  • Evaluates the urgent or emergent care aspects of patient care.
  • Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional or mental problems.
  • Provides a full range of urgent care and emergency services or crises interventions in the absence of the physician.
  • Writes prescriptions, orders the administration of medications, dispenses medications, and prescribes controlled substance in accordance with scope of practice for Advanced Practice Nurses.
  • Provides supervision and education to rotating nurse practitioner and physician assistant students rotating in the assigned clinical care area
  • Records entries into patients electronic medical record.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Communicates patient management strategies to members of the patient care team. Collaborates with physicians regarding patient management, to include evaluating and revising therapeutic plans. Serves in a leadership position and is recognized as a consultant and role model to other health care professionals both within, and outside, the institution. Develops and/or conducts in-service education programs for other health care professionals. Serves as advisor/member of committees as needed. Develops, reviews, and appropriately updates policies, protocols, standards of nursing practice, standard operating procedures and scope of practice regarding adult, adolescent, pediatric and geriatric patient care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary members of the health care team. Basic Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program in Nurse Practitioner is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse in the specialty of Nurse Practitioner or related specialty from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
