Cleveland Clinic’s Bath Health and Wellness Center are looking to add an RN First Assistant to the team who will assist in the provision of surgical nursing care and treatment to a specified group of patients in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). You will get to deliver exceptional care throughout the patient care journey, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed.     

A caregiver in this position works days Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Assesses patient pre- and post-operatively from phase II anesthesia recovery through discharge. Performs initial and ongoing nursing assessments.
  • Establishes a coordinated plan of care in collaboration with the health care team.
  • Monitors progress of hospitalized patient, assisting with discharge planning.
  • Initiate CPR and other emergency measures as required.
  • Focuses on cost-effective ways to maximize wellness, prevent illness, disability and disease.
  • Functions as a RN-first assist in tissue handling, providing exposure, using instruments, suturing, providing hemostasis and closing tissue and skin in operative setting.
  • Administers medications and treatments as ordered by physician.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Completion of Registered Nurse First Assist course
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 
  • Two years current clinical experience in the operating room or perioperative area
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross 
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross upon hire or willing to obtain within six months of hire 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) 
  • Operating room experience
  • Ortho experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion; manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work
