Position Summary:
The Medication Aide is responsible for the safe and accurate administration of medications to residents, monitoring their health status, and supporting the nursing team in maintaining residents' well-being. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to high-quality care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Medication Administration:
- Accurately prepare, administer, and document medications according to physician orders and company protocols.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of medications in compliance with regulations.
- Monitor residents for adverse reactions or side effects and report concerns to the nursing team promptly.
- Health Monitoring:
- Observe and report changes in residents' health status, behavior, and physical condition.
- Measure and record vital signs as needed.
- Assist with basic healthcare tasks under the supervision of licensed staff.
- Resident Engagement:
- Build positive relationships with residents through compassionate care and effective communication.
- Encourage residents' participation in wellness programs and activities.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Follow infection control procedures and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Ensure medication carts, records, and supplies are organized, secure, and well-maintained.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations and assist with emergency care when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a state-approved Medication Aide training program preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare, senior living, or long-term care setting preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medication administration.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Compassionate, patient, and attentive to residents' needs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to assist residents with mobility and physical support as needed.
- Certifications & Requirements:
- Active Medication Aide certification in good standing with the state.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
- Must successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
