  • Position Summary
    • The Clinical Nurse Educator role will be utilized to improve the overall quality of care within the Medical/Surgical unit. This job will help prepare the nursing staff through education, certification and the incorporation of research for the future. The clinical educator will focus on clinical education, improving performance measures, engaging staff and ensuring annual competencies are competed to meet the needs of the unit and improve overall care of patients. The Clinical Nurse Educator utilizes the novice to expert model, in conjunction with current evidence based standards of practice to ensure new graduate nurses are fully oriented and competent upon completion of the orientation period.

    • Provides rationale and implementation guidelines for nurse sensitive indicators and other clinical quality outcomes. Provides clinical experiences to develop nursing process, and critical thinking, knowledge and skills. Provides application experiences to ensure clinical competency upon completion of residency.
    • Demonstrates the ability to manage change and empower others to influence clinical practice and political processes within and across systems.
    • Assists the Manager by providing constructive feedback on staff to assist with annual and probationary reviews. Maintains competency in professional certification.
    • Promotes collaborative relationships with co-workers and physicians through introductions and follow up. Provides education and support in the appropriate utilization of resources and standards of care for the patient population.
    • Contributes to formulation of nursing careplan for patients in consultation with the RN and in collaboration with patient, families, healthcare members using established nursing diagnoses and nursing protocols. Prioritize nursing care needs of clients. Assist in the review and revision of nursing care plans with the RN to meet the changing needs of the patient.
    • Provides structured, tiered competency based clinical experiences for new graduates. Provides consistent feedback and progress reports to the new graduate, and follow up with the nurse manager. Facilitates staff development and personal growth through peer review, observation, education and role modeling.
