Under direction, provides direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process, performs technical nursing functions and upholds the standard of practice of a professional nurse in caring for infant through geriatric patients.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Utilizes the nursing process as the basis for nursing care.
Provides direct patient care.
Performs nursing functions, applying professional skills.
Documents and maintains date on patient’s record.
Maintains a safe environment.
Applies basic teaching / learning concepts to patient education.
Provides for life support.
Acts as a patient advocate.
Cooperates as a member of the nursing unit, department and overall hospital team.
Participates in performance improvement.
Delegates and / or supervises aspects of care to team members and reviews completion.
Performs related work as required.
Communicates pertinent data to appropriate parties.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Conducts himself/herself effectively in stressful situations.
Approaches situations with distressed patients, families, and visitors in a calm, professional manner.
Collaborates with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans for patients.
Properly assesses and manages patient populations with appropriate intervention.
Administers intravenous medications and / or parenteral nutrition.
Administers blood products and evaluates patient response.

Education: Graduate of accredited School of Nursing with either an Associate or Bachelor degree.

License/Certification: La State Board of Nursing License and CPR required. ACLS and PALS preferred.

Additional experience preferred:

One year of RN experience preferred
Current knowledge of clinical practice.
Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques, and practice of professional nursing; of scientific principles and nursing research; of preparation, administration, and actions of medications; of treatments and medical procedures; of counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care.

Job Summary The Registered Nurse provides safe therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way, incorporating differences into the provision of care. Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum to include patient and family education. Relies on education and training to complete responsibilities within scope of licensure as registered nurse. Responsibilities Clinical Practice and Care Management Performs psychosocial/physiologic assessments that integrates changing data Formulates a plan of care based on trends of similar patients, including patient education and discharge planning. Tailors and prioritizes caring practice to individual needs, including cultural/ ethical/ spiritual needs. Participates in the planning of routine transitional health care needs. (i.e. treatment options patient placement options, end of life options) Responds to changes in patient's needs and provides holistic care using independent clinical judgment based on knowledge drawn from education and experience. Adapts planned educational programs and information to individual patients and family by modifying teaching strategies or content. Integrates education during the delivery of patient care. Collaborates with patients/ families to identify realistic desired outcomes. Ensures efficiency in the delivery of care: determines immediate priorities and offers solution for problems. Actively advocates for patient rights and identifies potential conflict. Seeks counsel for resolution of conflict. Identifies variances from expected outcomes. Evaluates patient outcomes and makes revisions in the plan of care. Documents all patient care activities as per documentation standards. Assists the healthcare team with the documentation process. Communication and Collaboration Consistently communicates/collaborates with the health care team members, patients and families to maximize patient outcomes. Appropriately delegates patient care activities to other health care team members and participates in making and revising staff assignments to achieve maximum productivity Maintains knowledge regarding unit initiatives, and incorporates the outcomes of the team/ committees work into practice. Participates on unit teams, work groups and/ or committees. Anticipates needs and voluntarily assists others. Quality Demonstrates knowledge of unit based quality improvement initiatives. Participates in quality improvement initiatives by utilizing standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery. Incorporates evidence based practice and research findings into nursing practice to enhance outcomes. Professional Development Acts as a clinical resource and serves as a mentor to health care team members; displays leadership behaviors. Identifies own learning needs based on self-evaluation and the progress made from the previous year's goals. Accountable for all documentation and completion of all required continuing education and competencies relevant to area of practice as defined by clinical management.
